Al-Nassr Neighborhood

    On the third anniversary of the martyrdom of the national hero Mustafa Hafez (July 1959), and during a special celebration to commemorate the martyrs put together by the board of Gaza Municipality on its public park, the Egyption governor at the time announced the donation of 40,000 Egyption pounds. The money was aimed at constructing five road-accessible residential buildings supplied with water and electricity on 80 Dnms. that belonged to the government to house the families of the martyrs. Hajj Raghib Al-Alami, vice mayor at the time, announced on his part the donation of 30,000 Egyption pounds for the purpose of hospital, mosque, and a school construction in this new neighborhood which was called the City of Victory for the Siblings of Martyrs. The area just south of Sheik Radwan area is still known today as the Victory Neighborhood (Hay Al-Nasr).

    On the fifth anniversary of the Israeli withdrawal (March,57), or the "Festivals of March" as was called in 1962, Yossif al-Ajroodi, the Egyptian governor at the time, opened the newly finished five buildings of the Victory Neighborhood and distributed forty apartment ownership titles. Since then the area witnessed a major growth in construction on the government's destributed land.
