SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES

Al-Azhar Univeristy, Gaza: http://www.alazhar-gaza.edu/ - Founded in 1991 this is one of the largest universities in Palestine. It has 11519 students distributed between eight faculties: Pharmacy, Medical Professions, Science, Agriculture, Education, Arts, Economics & Administrative Sciences and Law. Added to Complete Guide: 20 September 1999. Top of page.

Al-Hashimyyah Secondary School, Al-Bireh: http://home.palnet.com/~hashmyah - Founded in 1917, this school in Al-Bireh, the neighbouring town to Ramallah opens with the Palestinian national anthem "Biladi". Page has developed since it was launched with information about Palestine, staff pictures and student information. Many of the pages are still under construction and this is another one of those sites which decided to copy all of this links from the Complete Guide and present it as their own. Added to Complete Guide: 13 May 1998. Review Updated 16 September 1999 Top of page.

Al-Quds University: http://www.alquds.edu - Al-Quds University was founded in the late 1970s when four separate faculties were founded in the Jerusalem area. In 1984 these faculties were unified under the umbrellas of Al-Quds University. The Al-Quds University site, which has grown very quickly recently, has all the usual things one would expect to find on a university webpage - information about academics, programs, departments, conferences, library, student life, and so on - in Arabic and English, presented clearly and attractively.Review last updated: 16 September 1999. Top of page.

An-Najah University: http://www.najah.edu - Their website was re-launched in December 1998. The site is attractive and the different sections indicate potential. Hopefully this website will develop further and fill in the content.Added to Complete Guide: 5 February 1997. Review last updated: 2 December 1998. Top of page.

Arab American University - Jenin: http://www.aauj.edu - A brand spanking new website for the most recent of Palestine's Universities. You can find an overview, history, a list of colleges and pictures of the planned campus. The latter is obviously not built yet and looks a little like Disneyland. The AAUJ's "full affiliation with the California State University System" and current advert for a president with American educational management experience seems out of place and the university-under-construction was greeted with mixed feelings by Palestinian educationalists. There are already 6 universities for the Palestinian West Bank population of 1.5 million and many feel the existing universities should be built up, particulary the two in Gaza. Gaza has over 1,500 students who wish to study in West Bank insititutions who have been prevented from doing so by Israel for the two and a half years. Regardless of the politics, AAUJ's website is well put together and informative. Added to Complete Guide: 5 February 1997. Review last updated: 30 March 1998. Top of page.

The Bethlehem Bible College: http://www.bethlehembiblecollege.edu This is, as the name suggests, a Bible College in Bethlehem. They run a choir and a program for international students as well as an extensive local curriculum.Added to Complete Guide: 15 September 1998 Top of page.

Bethlehem University: http://www.bethlehem.edu - Launched on the Web on 17 May 1996, Bethlehem University's website offers brief information about the university, newsletters, and a staff directory. The website now seems to be regularly updated after a long hiatus. Review last updated: 16 September 1999. Top of page.

Birzeit University: http://www.birzeit.edu - Launched on the Web on 6 June 1996, Birzeit's is the largest website in Palestine. A report on the first year gives a good idea of where the website is going. Sections include:
  • Brief information about the university in English, French, German. Other European languages to follow.
  • Birzeit Archives - University Newsletter, Press Release, Human Rights & Photographic archives.
  • Birzeit, Palestine and the World Wide Web - the development of the Internet in the university and wider Palestinian community.
  • The Ramallah On-line Tourist Guide, to the area around the university (Ramallah, Al-Bireh, Birzeit, Jifna and Taybeh).
  • A guide to Events in Palestine.
  • Links to departments, research and community-outreach centres, and conference information are available on the homepage.
  • Birzeit News offers reports, including Real Audio, from the university and wider community. Other Palestine-related Web projects are also available off the homepage, in the "Featured Links" section.
Review last updated: 21 December 1997. Top of page.

Birzeit University, Continuing Education Department (CED): http://www.birzeit.edu/ced/ - Launched on the Web on 1 June 1997, the CED has taken its in-service courses for the private, public and NGO sector online. You will find information about courses in languages, computers, management training, community development and capacity building. Nicely designed website that is full of information. Added to Complete Guide: 1 June 1997. Review last updated: 21 December 1997. Top of page.

Hebron University: http://www.planet.edu/~hebronun/ - What can I say? I hate to be repetitive, but this site offers things usually found on a university website. Admissions, academics, the community, news, and so on.Added to Complete Guide: 10 February 1998. Review Updated 16 September 1999 Top of page.

Hope Flowers School: http://www.samarkand.org/Hope%20Flowers/HopeFlowindex.htm - A simple page for this Palestinian school in the south Bethlehem area of the West Bank. They claim to represent "a flowering of hope in the matter of building peaceful relations between Palestinians and Israelis". You judge.Added to Complete Guide: 18 October 1999 Top of page.

Ibrahimieh Community College: http://www.ibrahimieh.edu -Ibrahimieh Community College is a private non-profit institute of higher education located in Jerusalem. The website offers information about the college : contact information, the board of trustees, college programs, news, student email and a community services centre. The college is twinned with L'Université de Franch-Compte. Review last updated: 16 September 1999. Top of page.

Islamic University of Gaza (IUG): http://www.iugaza.edu - The IUG now has its own domain name and a much expanded website. This is a very large university with 7709 students in 1998. Information about the programs, staff and curriculum of the university.Added to Complete Guide: 7 January 1997. Review last updated: 16 September 1999. Top of page.

The Palestine Polytechnic Institute: http://www.ppi.edu/ Palestine Polytechnic Institute (PPI) is an independent Palestinian institution, based in Hebron. Founded in 1978. The PPI offers Bachelor degrees in different engineering, applied arts and also has a continuing education department. Unfortunately the links to student projects arent working.Added to Complete Guide: 15 September 1998 Top of page.

A fairly detailed history of the school and more promised soon. Added to Complete Guide: 28 January 1997. Review updated 21 June 1999. Top of page.

Tawjihi.org: http://www.tawjihi.org - A great addition to Palestinian websites - online results for secondary school students graduating from the final-year Tawjihi examinations. Just enter your name and school and find your results. A website produced by Palestine.online, Al Watan TV station in Ramallah, Planet, Al Ayyam newspaper, Arab Supernet and Al WatenehAdded to Complete Guide: 4 August 1999. Top of page.
