• The use of the term "Zionist" in this section of the website arises as a historical necessity, and not from any political agenda. The term "Israel" or "Israeli" cannot always be used since many of the events described here took place before the foundation of the State of Israel (15 May 1948).
• The terms nahiya () and liwa' () are Ottoman administrative terms. A liwa' was a mid-sized administrative district made up of several smaller districts called nahiya.
