FUTURE PLANS

Traditional Oud Music
In addition to publications for the conference and after it, it may be possible to generate continued community projects and other important initiatives.

Publications
A conference brochure, in Arabic and English, will be available for circulation. Several information kits are also being prepared to cover specific topics relevant or complementary to conference concerns (e.g., destroyed villages, landscape features). Such information kits will increase the resource base available for future publications.

Selected papers will appear in Arabic in Al-Karmel (the leading Palestinian literary quarterly). A volume in English, containing papers and presentations made at the conference, is planned for international publication. The papers will be reviewed and selected by an editorial committee. It is expected that this volume will receive wide circulation.

Academic and Professional Prospects
The conference is not intended only as an academic discussion. Birzeit University hopes that this landscape conference will create concrete and positive changes in policies and practices as they apply to the future of Palestine--at the individual and national levels. As a result, resources will have to be acquired in order to accommodate future study, and there will be need to pursue discussion in more detailed and specialized areas--thus future academic, professional and other meetings.
(An-nouri, The Gypsy, song by Sabreen)

While it is necessary to pursue academic and theoretical issues, there are also aspects of planning and preservation that require detailed study and subsequent monitoring.

It is hoped therefore that this conference will lead to the establishment of a centre for landscape and environmental studies in Palestine.
