Our occupational therapy department is considered a basic corner stone in providing the rehabilitation services since it is:-

Well equipped for all kinds of treatment and training.

It consists of : an assessment room, a large treatment hall, ADL training room, training kitchen, training bath and toilet, wood work shop, and wheel chair room, in addition to the office and technical aids store.

Staffed with three qualified therapists and three assistants, who provide the best services of their specialty as members of Center’s rehabilitation team, which consists of the doctors, physiotherapists, Nurses , Social workers, a psychologist in addition to the Occupational Therapists.

Goals

  1. Provide our services to the highest number of both in-patients and out-patients.
  2. Help the disabled in Achieving their maximum level of independence and active functioning into their community.
  3. Create better awareness of the rehabilitation process and disability.
  4. Create better awareness of our occupational therapy services.
  5. maintain and improve the high standard of our OT services by Providing the department with the up-dated knowledge, expertise and equipment.

What is Occupational Therapy?

It is the use of purposeful activities (unique feature) with individuals who are limited by physical injury or illness, psychological dysfunction , development or learning disabilities, poverty and cultural differences or the aging process. The practice of Occupational Therapy includes evaluation, special examinations and treatment, consultation processes and environmental adaptation; in order to maximize independence, prevent disability and maintain health. These services are provided individually in groups, or through social system.

Specific Occupational Therapy Services Include:

1 - Use of therapeutically analyzed crafts, games, or toys to promote purposeful actions that can be analyzed into performance component.
2 - Selected applications of sensorimotor cognitive or psychological activities to develop specific performance component.
3 - Design, fabrication and application of orthotic and prosthetic devices to assist o substitute for functional performance.
4 - Analysis of daily living skills for the development restoration, or maintenance of skills performance in self maintenance, productivity, and leisure occupations.
5 - Analysis , selection and use of adaptive equipment or assertive technology or devices for functional performance improvement and restoration.
6 - Analysis and development of prevocational skills to facilitate the organization of performance components into occupational areas.
7 - Adaptation of physical environment ( architectural and environmental barriers ) through the home visits to client houses and public utilities and faculties in addition to the pyshosocial support provided through the social training programs and the continuous follow-up in the out-reach program to improve health, well being, and functional performance.

The OT can work in General Hospitals, Rehabilitation Centers, Schools, Pediatric Centers, Community Centers, as a member of the rehabilitation team. He importance of the OT services for the clients is seen in increasing and improving his self esteem, sense of dignity and self worth through the knowledge and ability rather than disability, which is important in improving the quality of his life.
