Alquds University in Jerusalem Alquds University is the only Arab University in Jerusalem. Since
its foundation in 1984, six different faculties have been
established. These include: the Faculties of Science and
Technology, Medicine, Allied Health Professions,
Jurisprudence, Law, and the Hind Al-Hussaeini Faculty of
the Arts. There are over 2300 students enrolled, 55% of
which are females. Scholarships are available and are
based on need and merit. Arab American University in Jenin The Arab American University is a new private university that is being
established in Palestine in the city of Jenin with full
affiliation with the California State University system.
The location of the University makes it accessible to
students from all over Palestine (including pre 1948
Palestinians). The University expects to accept its first
group of students in the academic year 1997/1998. The
University has the commitments of a number of Palestinian
scholars to join its faculty, the names of those scholars
will be published in the near future. Bethlehem University in Bethlehem Bethlehem University is a private co-educational institution open to
students of all faiths and is sponsored by the Vatican to
serve the higher educational needs of Palestinians in the
West Bank and Gaza. It was founded in 1973 with the
administrative cooperation of the De La Salle Brothers
(FSC). Students and graduates of Bethlehem University are
accepted in Arab, European, and American Universities. Birzeit University in an independent Palestinian institution
situated 26 km north of Jerusalem, in the Israel-occupied
West Bank. Founded as a school in 1924, Birzeit began its
university program in 1972 and is currently introducing a
master degree program. Education College Gaza The Education college is also located in Gaza. This school specializes in Education. This is the only faculty offered at the Education College. There are 493 students, 55% of which are female. There are 30 employed teachers , and a ratio of students to teachers of 16:1.
Education College UNRWA The Hebron Polytechnic College The Hebron Polytech College is specialized school of Engineering. This is the only faculty that is offered. There are only 390 student, 17% of which are female. With such a small enrollment, there are only 40 professors, and a student to teacher ratio of 10:1. The Hebron University has a current
enrollment of about 1,630 students, 50% of which are
female. There are five faculties, and these are: The
Faculties of Art, Sharia'h, Business nd Economics,
Agriculture, and Science and Technology. There are 65
employed professors, and the student to teacher ratio is
25:1. The Islamic University is located in Gaza. There are over 5,700 students, 34% of which are female. There are nine different faculties and these are : The Faculties of Business and Economics, Osol Eddin, Sharia'h, Education, Arts, Medical Profession, Science and Technology, Engineering, and Graduate Studies. There are 162 professors and the student to teahcer ratio is 35:1. Jerusalem Open University in Jerusalem Jerusalem Open University is located in Jerusalem. There are 5,517 students enrolled, 45% of which are female. There are six different faculties, and these are the Faculties of Education, Business and Economics, Agriculture, Graduate Studies, Social Development, and Computer Science. There are only 40 professors so the student toteacher ratio is 141:1. Jerusalem Open University also offers classes in both Ramallah and the Bireh. JSED-Jerusalem
School for Economics and Diplomacy Najah Naitonal University is one of the biggest in Palestine. There are over 6,825 students enrolled, 40% of which are female. This university offers ten different Faculties, and these are The Faculties of Science and Technology, Agriculture, Business and Economics, Sharia'h, Education, Arts, Engineering, Pharmacy, Law, and Graduate Studies. There is a teaching staff of approximately 265, and the student to teacher ratio is 24:1.
