Gaza
Municipality Public Library (GMPL) was established in 1999 by Gaza Municipality in
collaboration with the Urban Community of Dunkerque, Cites Unies France, the World Bank
through PECDAR, Caisse des depots et consignations (France). The present collection came
mainly as gift and donation from different local and Arab institutions. It is the first of
its kind in the city. It contributes to the cultural, social, educational development of
Gaza Community. It is located in a building consists of 2 floors and basement. The total
space is about 1410 square meters. |
Objectives
To promote culture and knowledge
in broad sense.
To help in preserving the
national cultural heritage.
To encourage the reading habits,
especially among children.
To provide materials which meet
the need and requirements of the users.
To provide fast and easy access
to all materials in the library.
To give access to the global
information through the multimedia tools.
To organize cultural and
educational events like lectures, seminars, group discussions, exhibitions, etc.
Library
Collection
The collection
of the books and periodicals totals more than 10000 volumes. The library has books and
periodicals in three languages Arabic, English, and French. The library subscribes to
about 100 periodical titles. Audiovisual materials collection consists of videotapes and
audiocassettes. In addition, there are some electronic materials of CD-ROMs.
