A useful website which represents the work of the British government in its relationships with the Palestinian Authority. An accurate and useful summary of the numerous agreements between the PLO and the Israeli government is available as well as information about human rights, aid and development, the West Bank , Gaza Strip and Jerusalem. Of course the site provides information about consular services but I was surprised to even find something about the y2K problem!

DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service: http://www.birzeit.edu/daad
DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service, is an organization of all German universities and organizes academic exchange between Germany and all countries worldwide. Palestine has been one focus in the work of DAAD. Their new website offers information about Masters, post-graduate and PhD scholarships as well as study courses in Germany.

Dheisheh Refugee Camp: http://www.dheisheh.acrossborders.org - Dheisheh first came online in 1998 as a project by Muna Muhaisen, a Palestinian American journalist living in the camp and webmaster Mary Gossage. In 1999, Dheisheh established a fully functioning computer laboratory in the camp as part of the Across Borders Project. The website was relaunched in August 1999 and is available in both Arabic and English. It contains a wealth of information about life in the camp, oral history, and children's stories. First Ramallah Group: http://www.sirreyeh.org/ - The First Ramallah Group is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization whose activities aim to enhance and strengthen the capabilities of Palestinian youth through the belief in the values and ethics of scouting in order to effectively contribute to the building of Palestinian civil society. A lively place and the place to visit if you're in Ramallah and looking for somewhere to swim, a gym, or just a place to sit back and try the nargileh. Events organized by the FRG include cooperation in the annual Palestinian International Festival for Dance and Music, a series of performances by the center's dance troupe, Sirriyet Ramallah, and participation of its sports teams in various sports competitions within Palestine and abroad. The Center also offers various fitness classes, swimming programs, Dabkeh (traditional Palestinian) dance classes and lectures. Sirreyeh now have their own domain name and their site has information about their 1999 summer camp.

In’ash El-Usra: http://www.inash.org/ - The Society was founded in 1965 by a group of committed voluwas founded in 1965 by a group of committed volunteers headed by Mrs. Sameeha Khalil. One of its earliest activities after the 1967 war was offering emergency help to the victims of the three villages of the Latrun area, Yalo, Emuas and Beit Nuba, which were demolished after the cease fire by the Israeli occupation forces. The Jerusalem Center for Women: http://www.j-c-w.org/ - The Jerusalem Center for Women was established in March 1994 as an outgrowth of an ongoing
dialogue between Palestinian and Israeli women which had begun in 1989, sparked by the impetus
of the popular Palestinian uprising against the Israeli occupation. The center is completely
autonomous, but was created simultaneously with an Israeli women's rights center, Bat Shalom. The

Library on Wheels for Nonviolence and Peace: http://www.palnet.com/users/lownp/ - Library on Wheels for Nonviolence and Peace travels to Palestinian villages, refugee camps and semi-nomadic communities, distributing books to children who are in areas have no access for public libraries. Maan Development Centre: http://www.maan-ctr.org/ - Maan Development Centre are the permaculture people in Palestine. In addition to this, they also run courses to help develop professional skills and they have a big resource centre as well. "Miftah is a Palestinian, Jerusalem-based, independent institution committed to fostering the principles of democracy and effective dialogue based on the free and candid exchange of information and ideas. Established in January 1999, Miftah's underlying premise is the integration of several processes: Palestinian nation-building and empowerment on the basis of the principles of democracy, human rights, rule of law, and participatory governance; international reconciliation and cooperation; the gathering and dissemination of information and the active participation in the global dialogue as an equal partner." It's good to see that this new NGO launched its website almost simultaneously as its formation. A nicely designed site with a lot of information including important documents, current events in Palestine and regularly updated news. Definitely worth a visit. Palestine Agricultural Relief Committees: http://www.pal-arc.org -
An organization established in 1983, prior to the Intifada, which focused on grassroots organizing of farmers against the Israeli occupation. Today it is a large NGO with the priorities of Protecting land from confiscation, Creating job opportunities, food security, improving the position of rural women and protecting the environment and water resources. Palestine Children's Relief Fund: http://www.wolfenet.com/~pcrf/ - The PCRF is "a registered non-political, non-profit, tax-exempt organization that was established in 1991 by concerned people in the U.S. to address the medical and humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian youth in the Middle East. It has since expanded to include other suffering children from other nationalities, based on their medical needs. The PCRF helps to locate care for children from all ethnic, religious, national and racial backgrounds. The main objective of the PCRF is to locate in the U.S. free medical care for children who cannot be adequately treated in the Middle East. The PCRF is the only organization bringing injured and sick Arab children to the U.S. for free care that is not available to them there." This is a well designed website, with information about the PCRF and its current work and projects. What is incredible about the site is the stories of children the organisation has helped, including several injured by the Israeli army and settlers. Palestine Center for Peace and Democracy (PCPD): http://msanews.mynet.net/gateway/pcpd/ - --"PCPD is a Palestinian, non-profit, non-governmental organization that is dedicated to promoting PEACE, DEMOCRACY, and HUMAN RIGHTS in the region." Their site offers much detailed information on what are the aims of PCPD, but the last annual report available online is from 1997, and their "Action Plan" focuses on what it is 'going' to do in 1998. Palestinian Center for Rapprochement Between People, Beit Sahour: http://www.rapprochement.org - The Beit Sahour-based center was established in April, 1988, by a group of Palestinians and Israelis "who thought of organizing a dialogue session in which they might talk about the Palestinian Israeli conflict. The idea is not to convince each other of one’s point of view, but to get to know more about the other side and try to discuss and overcome stereotypes, prejudice, fears and to promote learning among people in order to bring about a better understanding and readiness to advocate a just and peaceful solution for the Palestinian cause." This site is the official site of the Center, it includes a brief history about the establishment of the center and its objectives providing the first five mass activities that were organized during that period of time. Qattan foundation: http://www.qattanfoundation.org - This charitable organization is supported by the Qattan family. Its main aims are "to support the educational, cultural and scientific advancement of the Arabs in general and the
Palestinians in particular, as well as, the preservation of their heritage. In 1998, the Foundation was registered in Palestine where it opened its
offices in Ramallah in order to supervise two of its largest projects to date, namely the Qattan Center for Child in Gaza City and the Qattan Center for Educational Research and Development in Ramallah." A special grants program has been developed for 2000 and more information is available on this english/arabic website.

The Saraya Centre for Community Services, Jerusalem: http://www.assali.com/jti/saraya/ - The Saraya website is an attractive, well-presented source of information about the centre. It offers a short background of the building in which Saraya is based in the Old City of Jerusalem. Saraya provides training courses for women and library and supplementary resources for children and students. A great centre founded in Ramallah in 1996 whose objectives are , "to promote the logical, critical and creative thinking process in young Palestinian minds. Al Muntada attempts to challenge children to question, discuss, deduce and reason in order to reach their own conclusions and discover their potential." They run workshops and courses to that end.

American Federation of Ramallah, Palestine: http://www.afrp.org/ - The AFRP, a group of American Arabs who have common roots in Palestine, was formed in order to "produce social interaction among the members and to cherish a common heritage." So, this site is basically All About Ramallah. There is the Ramallah Tour, history of Ramallah, books and publications about Ramallah, Ramallah chat and job opportunities in - where else - Ramallah.
