The Society of In’ash El - Usra is a women’s organization which was established in 1965 in Al-Bireh, Palestine, with the aim of empowering Palestinian women and serving the various sectors of the community.
Background The Society was founded in 1965 by a group of committed volunteers headed by Mrs. Sameeha Khalil . After the war of 1967, and due to the Israeli occupation and the absence of Palestinian governmental institutions, the role of the Society became vital in dealing with the tremendous economic , social and political problems emanating from the occupation.
To face the emerging needs and challenges, members of the Society, who did not find themselves stranded across the border, started rallying the support of the community and encouraging committed volunteers to join its ranks. Financial aid and aid in kind was offered to the displaced villagers. Later on, The Society opened a kindergarten for their children. To cope with these expenses and to enable it to extend its services to the growing numbers of war victims, it initiated its income generating projects and its vocational programs to allow women to become income earning. The dedication and commitment of its volunteers and the vital services the Society was offering to the community at large, encouraged donors and friends from all over the world to lend their moral and financial support to the Society along the years. Thus it was able to expand and take tremendous strides towards fulfilling its goals, guided by three general principles:
Within a few years, the Society was able to move from its limited rented premises to three buildings of its own which accommodate all its activities and projects.
