Al-Bireh Municipality: http://www.al-bireh.org/ - The border between Al-Bireh and neighbouring Ramallah has, over the years, become a grey area for most of the residents of both towns. However, both towns have separate municipalities and two distinguishable characters. This website offers a City Profile, Historical View, The City Council, Public Services, Public Health, Economic & Trade Services, Social & Cultural Services and Sports, complete with photographs. In 1968 the firm moved to Amman, Jordan and later in 1995 established offices in Ramallah, Palestine. Arabcare Medical Services: http://www.arabcare.com/  - This website has undegone a revamp and is looking promising. Quite a lot of this site is still under construction, such as the staff and publications lists and the photo gallery. But the sections on Medical Care, which has info about services provided, locations of Arabcare institutions throughout Palestine, and the technologies used in these institutions, - and Health Insurance, which contains limited information about Arabcare's nationwide insurance policies are worth looking through. Central Election Commission: http://www.planet.edu/~cec - This site, dedicated to "providing concise and up-to-date information.....about the Palestinian elections," seems to have been last updated in January 1996, but almost all of its information is still accurate. It features the whole text of the Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement on the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as well as the whole Palestine Election Law of 1995. It also contains fact sheets, which contain information about the election timetables, the 16 constituencies, the electoral register. Full of useful and relevant information. Gaza Community Mental Health Programme: http://www.gcmhp.net/ - The GCMHP site is packed full of information about its services and the programme itself - including its departments, events, activities, publications and research (all available to read online), and the annual report. We also find a picture gallery, guestbook, and press releases section and a link to the home page of GCMHP's founder and director, Dr. Eyad El-Sarraj where many of his articles in both Arabic and English are available online to read. Then, if you go to the main index page, you will see a display of blossoming flowers and flying butterflies all over your screen. If you can manage to wade through all this, you'll find links taking you to pages about the history, geography, and municipality of the town, which can be rather interesting if you haven't read anything about Halhul before. Health, Development, Information and Policy Institute (HDIP): http://www.hdip.org/ - HDIP is an independent, non-profit organization devoted to policy research and planning concerning development issues and health care in Palestine. HDIP was established in 1989 by a group of researchers and health practitioners committed to improving the status of health care for all Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. They recently relaunched their website and it really is quite impressive. Links to the activities of HDIP, their database and archives of publications some of which are summarized online. They also offer GIS (Geographical Information System) services and can produce maps for the public at the low cost of 50 shekels per theme. Examples of these maps are available online. Jerusalem Water Undertaking (Ramallah District): http://www.jwu.org/ - The JWU offers its 1995 annual report, information about its installations, how to apply for employment and details of its services. A humerous graphic of a dancing water drop and a clear layout tells us its not all just sewers and pipes at JWU, on this well executed site. Nablus Municipality: http://www.nablus.org/ - An attractive and well-constructed site, it provides information about who's on the municipal council, the administrative departments of the council. There is a large section all about the city of Nablus - geography, arts and culture, history, agriculture, a photo gallery, and more. Parts of the site are still under construction, but the information that is already there is very interesting and well organised. Palestinian Airlines: http://www.palestinianair.com -The 10th of January 1997, was the date of the first Palestinian flight. Palestinian Airlines flight number (PF 141) took off on that day as the first trip carrying Palestinian pilgrims from Port Said Airport in Egypt to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Two Fokker 50 aircraft airlifted 325 pilgrims through seven return flights. An attractive website with details of flights to Egypt, Jordan, Dubai and Jeddah, information about the Palestinian Airline Fleet and links to other Palestinian sites.

Palestinian Ministry of Information: http://www.pna.org/ - The first PNA general information website but no longer the official one. It's import has decreased since the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation website at www.pna.net came online. Features sections entitled "Basic Info about Palestine," "Palestinian Economy," "Who's Who at the PNA," "Key Issues," The site has articles and research available online, and several regularly updated sections such as the "Daily Press" section, which is a summary of the headlines in local Arabic and English newspapers. The presentation is a bit rough and needs some work, but all in all the site is very informative and up to date. - This site contains basic information about the ministry, statistics and labour force surveys (from 1998), research papers, etc. There is a link labelled "ICE" and another labelled "PEP," which is rather confusing for the acronym-uninitiated amongt us. ICE is the International Conference on Employment in Palestine, and PEP is the Palestinian Employment Programme, and there is information available on both if you follow the PEP and ICE links. - The "official" PNA website from the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. One problem is the appearance of numerous non-official articles on this official site, including unsolicited material received on e-mail. Layout and information on this website improved a lot in 1997, and has continued to evolve. Rumour has it that this website - managed by a five-person team - was established by presidential decree after Yasser Arafat saw the equivalent Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs website online one day. The site contains lots of information - facts, articles, research, official letters and speeches, press reports, special reports, and much more. A lot of the links go back to pages in the Palestinian Ministry of Information's site (which used to be the official PNA site). Added to Complete Guide: 3 June 1997. - A huge amount of information on this page about the end-1997 national census that got the Israelis so uptight when it deemed to include Jerusalem. Information includes Legal Foundation, Historical Background, History of Censuses in Palestine, Census Stages, Justification, Census Contents, Outputs, Main Variables and Indicators, Confidentiality, Census Date Count Down, a message from the Offices of National Director, National Committee, Sub Committees, Supporting Committees, Acknowledgment For Donors, Donors Contribution, Census Plan, Dissemination and Publication Plan and Prelimintary Results, and an Appeal For All Palestinians to: fund it or make a technical contribution. If that wasn't enough, there is also the Census Progress in Pictures, Census Publications and...Other Activities. Ramallah Municipality: http://www.ramallah-city.org/ - Similar in many ways to the Al-Bireh Municipality website above, the Ramallah Municipality website basically offers more information, including a profile, history, details of the town council, projects, culture, and its role as a resort. The latter is perhaps a little misleading. Although Ramallah once enjoyed the reputation as the second most popular summer resort in the Arab World during the early 1960s, the Israeli occupation terminated this role completely through travel restrictions and de-development. We were founded in 1979 by a group of Palestinian doctors and health professionals seeking to supplement the decayed and inadequate health infrastructure caused by years of Israeli military occupation." The siteoffers information about UPMRC - its missions and background, and a variety of published material in its "Health in Palestine" section. Unfortunately, the English version is under construction, and the Arabic version turns into gibberish on my screen, no matter what I try. It recommends Internet Explorer 4.x or above, which I don't happen to have, so you're on your own for this one. Can't quite remember the year of the General Assembly resolution condemning Zionism as racism? Not sure what UN resolution 181 said? Want the text of the Oslo Accords or the Wye Agreement?
