CED TrainersInformation About Becoming a CED TrainerThe Continuing Education department at Birzeit University depends on, for the training and consultation services it provides to the Palestinian Community, a large number of trainers, consultants and experts in various fields and specializations. CED considers views its trainers as the backbone of its success in achieving its objectives in serving the Palestinian community. Therefore, CED places special emphasis on improving the technical skills and capabilities of these trainers. It has developed for this purpose, a special strategy to provide them with up-to-date information in their fields of expertise, with direct exposure to the different community activities and the opportunity to participate in specially designed train the trainers programs. CED is currently restructuring and expanding its programs. One of the main issues included in this restructuring process is organizing the relationship between CED and its trainers/consultants. This manual has been produced in order to provide the trainers with a clear picture of their roles within the programs. How Do You Become a CED Trainer/Consultant?If you are interested in the training sector, have previous experience in training or believe in the importance and value of training in the development process, you can send your curriculum vitae to CED along with any samples of training materials you have previously prepared. CED will study your qualifications and try to match them with one or more of its activities. CED will also be interested in helping you to develop your training skills through providing you with access to its resource library where the latest literature, references and audiovisual materials about training and adult education are being collected. What Does CED Expect From Its Trainers/Consultants?CED believes in a comprehensive approach to training. This approach requires all the people involved in the training process to work as a team with full coordination and cooperation. This kind of work relationship is expected to produce more effective programs that will better serve CED’s objectives. The following brief description is an overview of the role of a CED trainer: The trainers role in the implementation process varies according to the type of activity he/she is involved in. Training materials are pre-prepared for use in identified activity. The following summarizes the role of the trainer in both off-shelf activities and tailor made activities. A. Off the Shelf Activities 1. CoordinationCED expects the trainer to organize, with the program coordinator, all procedures relating to the implementation of a certain activity including the following procedures: a. The program coordinator will provide the trainer with all information about the trainees’ profiles and backgrounds, time frame, available facilities and other trainers involved as well as a copy of the prepared training material. b. The trainer will review the training material, meet with the trainees (if possible) and make all the necessary adjustments to the training material in order to meet the trainees needs. c. All trainers in a given training activity will meet with the program coordinator prior to starting the training activity and prepare the implementation plan. 2. Implementationa. The trainer will conduct the training activity according to the implementation plan. b. The program coordinator will arrange all necessary support and make all facilities available for the implementation. 3. Evaluationa. Using CED evaluation forms, the trainer will evaluate both the training activity as well as the trainees performance. b. The trainer will develop special evaluation forms whenever needed to improve the performance in a given training activity. c. The trainer will process the evaluation forms and summarize the results to be included in the final report. 4. ReportingThe trainer will prepare a final report on each training activity that will include:
B. Tailor Made Activities Tailor made activities are an important part of CED programs. These are specially designed training courses to meet the training needs of a specific target group. Such courses require more from the trainer in preparation before training and in evaluations after training. In addition to the tasks assigned to the trainers in the section on Off-Shelf Activities, instructors for Tailor-Made courses are expected to perform the following: 1. Training Needs AssessmentLocal organizations often ask CED for assistance in solving a certain problem, which they are unable to precisely identify. It is the trainers’ responsibility to further investigate the problem/need, assess it and come up with the best way to solve it (i.e. intensive training program, study day...etc.) 2. Activity DesignOnce the solution is identified, the trainer will be responsible, in cooperation with the program coordinator, for designing the activity, preparing the implementation plan, and determining all the requirements for the implementation process. 3. Material PreparationCED places a special emphasis on material development. It expects the trainer to prepare all the materials needed to be used in the training activity. Through its resource library, CED provides trainers with a wide range of resources to help them in material preparation and development. Nature of Relationship Between CED and Its TrainersCED policy is to build a strong and unique relationship with its trainers and consultants from the university and from outside. It encourages them to participate actively in the planning process, and values and welcomes their creative ideas. Since CED operates in team-like mode, the trainers become part of this team. CED provides trainers with opportunity of improving their training and course material development skills through its resource library and the “train the Trainers” course specially organized for them. CED Compensations PolicyCED has a standardized policy to compensate its trainers for the time they spend working on activities, including contact hours of training and material preparation. However, CED makes disbursements to its trainers ONLY when the appropriate reporting requirements are received. Payments are made twice a month on the first and the fifteenth of each month. No payments can be made otherwise.
