Technical Training

The Continuing Education Department offers a wide variety of technical training courses in divergent fields according to the current needs of the Palestinian community. Technical training courses have been conducted in both the West Bank and Gaza with participants coming from a wide variety of backgrounds and skills. Trainers have been both local and international experts in the relevant course topics.

Basic Radio Skills in Analogue and Digital Systems

This course was offered to journalists and reporters working with local and foreign media. The course introduced and offered practical training in the different components of radio transmission, recording, documentary editing and field work. Training for the course was delivered by personnel from the Finnish Broadcasting System.

Colour Systems in TV

This course was offered in the Gaza Strip and introduced the workings of colour TV systems.

Digital Electronics Training Programme

This course, held in co-operation with AMIDEAST and the Association of Engineers of Gaza Strip, aimed to improve the level of performance of electronic engineers and technicians.

Electro-Mechanical Engineering

This course was offered to blue collar workers and factory technicians seeking to improve their mechanical skills and increase job-safety awareness.

Hydraulic System Training

This UNDP sponsored course was offered to technicians from local workshops and small factories. Trainees learned the basic principles of a hydraulic system and examined the application, construction and operation of the components of the system. The course was offered throughout the West Bank and Gaza.

Maintenance and Operation of Sewage Systems

This UNDP sponsored course was offered for maintenance and operations engineers in the Gaza Strip and consisted of three modules: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and environmental sanitation. The course provided training in the management, monitoring, and evaluation of sewage treatment plants. It also examined the performance and efficiency of plants through income and effluent analyses, and critical interpretation of data and results.

Programme Logic Controllers

This UNDP sponsored course was offered to electrical and mechanical engineers. The course trained participants in how to prepare high technology, to run machines that are controlled by PLC, and familiarised them with mechanical maintenance. The course was offered in the West Bank and Gaza.

Technical Training for Women

This course was conducted in co-operation with Save the Children/Gaza and the Woman and Child Centre and offered training in the fundamentals of home electricity and safety, and in repairing and maintaining home appliances. The course was specifically designed for house wives, and women working in production factories.

TV/VCR Technician

This course was offered to electrical engineers and technicians working in the field of TV/VCR maintenance. The course consisted of three modules: Power Supply, Digital Electronics and TV Colour Systems and highlighted the fundamentals of the application of modern parts of TVs and VCRs.

Urban and Regional Planning

This course, offered in co-ordination with Delft University of Technology, Holland, introduced new concepts and modern techniques in urban and regional planning. It increased participants awareness of the role and importance of public participation in the planning process. All participants came from an engineering background and training was delivered by a group of local and Dutch experts in the field.

Video Camera Workshop

This course offered individuals working in public relations training to sharpen their skills in video documentation for archival purposes.
