Humanities

The Humanities field of training covers a wide variety of courses. The Continuing Education Department’s primary goal is to meet the immediate needs of the Palestinian community for specific training, which often falls outside of the familiar fields of administrative and management training.

Counseling

"Taking the Mental Health of Traumatized Children Seriously"

The Near Eastern Cultural and Educational Foundation (NECEF) of Canada sponsored this course which provided participants with basic Counseling and communication skills in order to facilitate their work with families and children. Participants also gained the technical skills necessary to conduct community awareness activities.

The course covered a number of modules each covering a specific topic as follows: Normal Development of Children in Both Physical and Psychological Spheres; Psycho- pathological Problems of Children; In-Take and Referral; Family Dynamics and Family Intervention; Communication Skills; Screening and Counseling Skills.

This was a two year project, consisting of 12 courses offered in the West Bank and Gaza by an number of instructors. CED is currently seeking funds to offer the training course as a diploma program at the department.

The objective of this UNDP sponsored workshop was to train participants in androgogy (adult learning) theory, and to help them recognize and respect different learning styles.

Library Science

CDS/ISIS Training: Computerized Documentation

This AMIDEAST sponsored course introduced college and university librarians to the index search interface and format of reservation system. It also offered an introduction to the use of the Internet.

Introduction to Library Science

This course taught library skills such as cataloging, classification, referencing, and technical skills to college and university librarians and library staff.

Statistics

Introduction to Statistics

This course was offered to researchers with a background in the social sciences, political science, education or economics and provided participants with information and applications on mapping hypotheses, selecting appropriate samples consistent with the nature of research, developing a statistical questionnaire, selecting the appropriate tests for research and analysing computer outcomes of statistical programs.
