Practices Network
Civic Practices Network (CPN) is a collaborative and nonpartisan project
bringing together a diverse array of organizations and perspectives within
the new citizenship movement in the US. This site has a searchable index
to find stories, case studies, and essays by topic area, key word, and
geographic area
Community Associations Institute Online
It is an American multidisciplinary alliance dedicated to the
development of effective community associations. Their homepage has
information about how to develop community organizations and has links
to other resources
Community Development Society (CDS)
CDS is a professional association for community development practitioners
and citizen leaders from around the world, however, at this point its membership
and resources are primarily US-focused. This homepage has information
about CDS, and its members, news updates about issues related to community
development, and an on-line library and journal.
COMM-ORG
COMM-ORG, the ON-Line Conference on Community Organizing and Development
is a US-based organization that helps to connect people who "care about
community organizing" and that provides information to help people with
community organizing. This homepage has information about COMM-ORG,
a whole host of on-line resources (e.g. working papers, a list-serve),
and link sites arranged by topic. COMM-ORG currently has 500 members
from 12 different countries
Community Tool Box
This organize seeks to promote community health and development by
connecting people, ideas and resources. Of note on this internet
site is the community building tools section with information and publications
on strategic planning, advocacy, grant writing, evaluation, etc.
This internet site also has a section on information about broad strategies
for community building, links to other web pages and resources, and
a searchable database that is very helpful. .
The Grassroots Organizer
Provides links to community organizing internet sites. In addition,
this site provides information about tools and resources for community
based action

This web site, currently under construction, promotes and develops
self-help initiatives with homeless, landless and socially excluded people
Idealist
This internet site provides an on-line resource for non-profit and
community organization. The resource is an on-line searchable databse
with links to, information about, and resources from over 15,000 NGOs and
community groups from around the world
IDSNET, University of Guelph
In addition to links to Canadian development studies programs, this
site has links grouped into various thematic sections (gender, governance,
media, etc.)

The New Social Movements Network
This site was developed based on a conference tracing conceptual links
between new social movement theory and practice, and poverty. This
site is used as a "medium for dialogue across space". This site has
some interesting discussion papers, and links to other related sites
Society for International Development (SID)
SID is a global network of individuals and institutions concerned
with development which is participative, pluralistic and sustainable. This
site consists primarily of information about SID.
UNDP
This link site provides information about the UNDP programs, projects
and field offices from around the world, and provides information about
its areas of focus: poverty, gender, environment and governance.
The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA)
WOLA promotes human rights, democracy and social and economic justice
in Latin America and the Caribbean. WOLA facilitates dialogue between
governmental and non governmental actors, monitors the impact of policies
and programs of governments and international organizations, and promotes
alternatives through reporting, education, training and advocacy

Has information about its research activities that are grouped into
four categories: agricultural development and the environment, local institutions
and rural development, gender and social inequality, gender and social
inequality, and globalization and developing countries.
Community Development On-Line
This site is an information clearing house that is easily accessible
by a searchable database. The database has information about case
studies, potential funding sources, etc. The one crimp with respecting
to accessing this resource is that there is a subscription fee.

organization. Their homepage provides information about them and

International Development Research Center
IDRC is a public corporation created by the Canadian government to
help communities in the developing world find solutions to social, economic,
and environmental problems through research. This site not only provides
information about IDRC and its programs, but it also has some of its research
materials available online
Institute for Development Research
The Institute for Development Research (IDR), a non-profit research,
education and consulting organization, is dedicated to promoting the participation
of underrepresented and impoverished groups in social, political and economic
development processes.
Overseas Development Institute
The Overseas Development Institute is an independent non-governmental
center for the study of development and humanitarian issues and a forum
for discussion of the problems facing developing countries. This site provides
information about their areas of research
Third World Network (TWN)
TWN is an independent non-profit international network of organizations
and individuals involved in issues relating to development, the Third World
and North-South relations. TWN's site has information that relates
to their major activities: research work, organizing seminars, and providing
"a platform representing Southern interests and perspectives in the international
fora". This site has a current focus section which is a discussion
and analysis of a specific issues, and it has links to resources on various
thematic areas (e.g. trade, health, human rights, Thrid World economics,
etc.)

UNRISD is an autonomous agency engaging in multi-disciplinary research
on the social dimensions of contemporary problems affecting development.
This site has a collections of research papers about various dimensions

Information for Development in the 21st Century
ID21 Development Research reporting service has a selection of the
latest UK-based development research. This online service has information
drawn from over 40 top UK research centers, conference papers and unpublished
report, and research by aid and development agencies and pressure groups,
and finally research by consultants.
New Social Movements Network--Papers on-line
Has papers submitted and discussed at the New Social Movement and Community
Organizing conference.
UNRISD Publications
