Ramallah, October 18, 2000

The brave Palestinian people need a brave leadership,

Unfortunately, what was right all along, is right again, the Palestinians have no leadership to really represent their interests. They also have no partner for peace for Israel is not ready yet for a peace settlement.

As expected, the participants at Sharm al-Sheikh summit, especially our own leadership, missed the point again. In fact, there has been no agreement on any of the major issues, they simply avoided the real issues and concentrated on reliving the burden of the intifada from their shoulders and go back to their usual affairs with a relatively clear conscience. How can they? How would it help to go back to the pre Sept. 28th. 2000 situation. Isn't that what the Palestinian people revolted against in the first place.

The Israeli army and settlers continued their attacks against the Palestinians before and after Sharm al-Sheikh. Yesterday a Palestinian farmer was killed while picking up his Olive trees. And a few minutes ago, a Palestinian was killed in Nablus. Demonstrations against Sharm
al-Shaikh broke up in all major Palestinian cities, including Ramallah, after the summit commenced. And as usual they ended with clashes with the Israeli army at the same clashing points. The Intifada will continue, because its causes were never treated at all. A settler watching the construction of a settlement in Jerusalem
