The first anniversary of the Intifada
Under the patronage of the President Arafat, the State
Information Center, the Ministry of health and the Municipality of Gaza
have organized a festival for the first anniversary of the Intifada at
28th Sep. 2001. Many activities were conducted during the
festival which was held in Rashad Shawa Cultural Center. The
Participants have strongly condemned the brutal Israeli policy of the
Israeli army against the Palestinian people. |

Me and my mother in war, a theatre
play organized by Holst Park
The Holst Patk/
Municipality of Gaza, in cooperation with Theatre Day Production has
organized many theatre shows for the play Me and my mother in
war. A large crowd of children and families attended the
shows. The play concentrated on the suffering of Palestinian children,
especially during the recent Intifada. |

Signing of a grant agreement with the
Government of Japan
On the 22nd
of August, the Municipality of Gaza and the Embassy of Japan have signed
a grant agreement according to which Japan will finance the project of
procurement and installation of metal plates for houses numbers inside
Gaza City. The project aims at improving services rendered by various
Palestinian ministries and institutions to citizens of Gaza. The project
will be managed by the Computer and Information Center of Gaza
Municipality. |

The Municipality of Gaza implements infrastructure projects in Gaza
With the help of various International agencies, the
Municipality has recently started implementing some important projects
in Gaza City such as the sewage network in Al Zaitoon area (World Bank),
Palestine street upgrading project (World Bank), development of various
streets in the Beach Camp (Save the Children), and Port Saed street
(European Community). |

A twinning agreement between Gaza and
Tromso
On the 25th of July, and during the official
visit of the Mayor of Tromso to the City of Gaza, a twinning agreement
was signed between the Norwegian City Tromso and Gaza City. The two
cities have mutually agreed on cooperating in various cultural and
technical fields. A joint cultural project will be identified and
implemented later by both cities. The Mayor of Gaza considered this
agreement very important as it comes at a time where Gaza City needs an
International support from all friendly peoples and cities around the
world. |

A coordination meeting of European
cities twinned with Gaza
On the 20th of July, the Municipality of
Barcelona has hosted the first coordination meeting of European cities
twinned with Gaza City. Dunkerque, Barcelona, Cascais, Turino and Gaza
participated in this meeting. The European cities have stressed their
support to Gaza people at this difficult time. Some common projects
inside Gaza City were identified, and they will be subject for further
development in order to help Gaza City. The next coordination meeting
will be held during the month of November in Cascais, Portugal. |

Implementation of phase II of Al Qubba Park
In cooperation with the twin City of Dunkerque, Gaza
Municipality has started implementing phase II of Al Qubba Park located
in Shijaiya area in Gaza city. The Park will serve more than 40,000
inhabitants. It is worth mentioning that the Municipality is doing a
considerable effort for increasing the green areas inside the city. |

The inauguration of the Brotherhood Public Park
On the 2nd of June, the Municipality of Gaza and
the Pontifical Mission in Jerusalem have inaugurated the Brotherhood
Public Park located between the Beach Refugees Camp and the Naser area.
The Park was totally financed by George and Marie Doty through the
Pontifical Mission in New York and it includes green areas, sport
playground and an open amphitheatre. The neighborhood committee thanked
Gaza Municipality and the Pontifical Mission for their great effort in
implementing this project with a total budget of USD 600,000. |

Gaza Municipality and CHF launch the
program for environment improvement
The Municipality of Gaza and the CHF have launched the
USAID funded program for the environment improvement in Gaza City. With
a total budget of USD 3,000,000, the program aims at cleaning and
beautifying Gaza City as well as increasing the awareness of its
citizens with respect to environment. |

Holst Park organizes various summer cultural activities
As part of the Norwegian funded cultural program for the
year 2001, the Holst Park/ Municipality of Gaza has organized various
activities for children and youth. One of these activities was first aid
course done in cooperation with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
The course focused on the scientific and technical aspects of first aid. |

10 Years IN Mud
The Arts and Crafts Village/ Municipality of Gaza has
organized an exhibition - 10 years in mud- for the artist
Solaiman Mansour. The exhibition included various works and sculptures.
The Village has organized many successful exhibitions this year for both
Palestinian and foreign artists. |

Signing of a grant agreement with UNESCO
On the 1st of June 2001, a grant agreement was
signed between the Gaza Municipality and the UNESCO. According to this
agreement, the Government of Saint Marino will provide a financial
assistance to Issad Ettofola Park-Municipality of Gaza. The Mayor of
Gaza has sent a letter of appreciation to the Ambassador of Saint Marino
to UNESCO for their generous support. The assistance will help the
Municipality in better implementing the cultural programs and services
for the children of Gaza, especially at this difficult time where Gaza
children have been deprived from their basic rights. |
