Realized Projects Funded by The
Donors
The Israeli
occupation left the city with a totally destroyed infrastructure. Therefore, since the
current Municipal Council took office the Municipality executed several vital, important
and quality projects; and works are in progress to complete the other projects and prepare
for future projects for the sake of rehabilitation, development and building of the city.
As such, the Municipality appeals to citizens to measure up to their
responsibilities. We are one people with the same problems and same goals that we
collectively endeavor to realize. Let us be loyal to God and the Nation. Let every one of
us perform his duty in order to enjoy his rights.
We remind our citizens that development and rehabilitation cannot take
place except after digging and temporary closing of some street. Soon digging will end and
development will remain.
Brief
Description of Some Projects:
Consistent with
the policy laid out by the current Municipal Council, the Municipality executed during the
past five years several important infrastructure projects such as water, sewage, storm
water, electricity and telephone projects, in addition to the pavement of streets and
sidewalks in the different parts of the city, parks and cultural centers. These projects
are either self-financed or by donor countries financing sources, i.e.:
- Grant from USAID.
- Grants from the European Union, either directly or in cooperation with the Palestinian
Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction (PECDAR).
- World Bank loans in cooperation with PECDAR and the Ministry of Local Government.
- Grants from Save the Children Foundation (SCF).
- Grants from Japan and other states through the United Nations Development Program
(UNDP).
- Direct Norwegian and French grants.
- Grants from Twinning agreements.
- Other sources.
These projects, which met the satisfaction of citizens, were executed
on a good level through cooperation with local and international agencies such as PECDAR,
UNDP, Save the Children and the Norwegian Foreign Ministry.
