- A new article by Professor Roger Heacock entitled Between Systems and Salami: US Policy Towards the Palestinians and the Middle East in the Late Twentieth Century. The article traces the successive policies of US administrations towards the Middle East and proposes that sovereign states tend to range in their foreign policies between two strong alternative poles, and that this pendulum-like movement often occurs between successive administrations. - We publish the introduction of a book by the Birzeit University Centre for Research and Documentation on the destroyed Palestinian village Abu Shusha.. This article examines the history of the village and the massacre that took place there based on oral history interviews with survivors and other historical records. - Dr. Sharif Kanaana examines the different interpretations and the role that the Deir Yassin massacre played in the expulsion of the Palestinians in 1948, in his article Reinterpreting Deir Yassin. Added 24/11/98.

- Khalil Athamina, from the Mediterranean Studies Department, explores the significance of the colour black in the flags of early Islam in his article The Black Banners and the Socio-Political Significance of Flags and Slogans in Medieval Islam. Added 10/10/98.
- Sharif Kanaana, from the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Birzeit University, examines the Patterns of Palestinian Exodus in 1948. In this important article, Dr. Kanaana takes a critical look at the "new historians" such as Benny Morris, and argues that their writing is still trapped in the framework of Zionism. Added 8/10/98.
- Salim Tamari, from the Department of Sociology at Birzeit University, writes about the role of Shopkeepers, Peddlers and the Urban Resistance in the Palestinian Uprising. He traces the participation and development of struggle by the Palestinian merchant class during the Intifada. Added 28/9/98
