The Sakakini hosted the following events:
A lecture by Dr. Nazmi Jubeh from Bir-Zeit University on the historical architectural development of the City of Hebron. The lecture was co-sponsored by Riwaq.
A poetry reading by poet Faycal Qarqati, reading from his latest, & third poetry collection: Sajdat el Hinna, (Henna Prostration) .
Screening of the 1984 film version of the Opera Carmen
Screening of a documentary on the hand made Japanese Washi paper.
Singer-composer Mustapha Kurd and his ensemble of Palestinian and German musicians, in a concert of Palestinian poetry put to music by M. Kurd.
A lecture by visiting Texas University archeology professor, Dr. Denise Schmandt-Besserat on her discoveries of the origins of writing in the Sumerian civilization.

1997:
The Sakakini hosted the following events:
-A lecture by Dr. Saleh Abdel Jawad from Bir-Zeit University on the sociological development of the City of El Bireh. The lecture was co-sponsored by Riwaq.
-A poetry reading by British poet Benjamin Zephaniah.
-Isabel de la Cruz photo exhibit.
-Screening of two films on Norwegian painters Edvard Munch and contemporary artist Frans Widerberg.
-A classical music recital featuring visiting American violist, and London Symphony Orchestra member Peter Sulski, and young Palestinian pianist Lara Harb, on her first public concert. The recital featured works by Bach, Schubert, Francois Francoeur, and contemporary American composer Paul Gregory.
March,
1997:
The Centre hosted this month an exhibition of
modern Russian Art, loaned by Palestinian collector Daoud Barakat. The
collection contains works by Tymour, Vukolov, Dudnig, Kashishvili, Diana
Voba, Sergei Borsov, etc. The Centre also hosted the following events:
-A conference by Palestinian American author Lisa Majaj on Identity construction in Palestinian American literature,
-A poetry reading evening by poet Ali el Khalili ,
-A lecture on the destructive Israeli excavations under the Jerusalem holy mosques esplanade by Issam Awwad, the engineer supervising the renovation work on the mosques since 1972,
-A meeting with Artist Tayseer Barakat with a slide display showing the evolution of his work from his mid-1980s oil paintings, to work on paper, to his current phase of working with wood and installations.
- The Centre also hosted a tribute organized by the Ministry of Culture, honoring veteran Palestinian painters Ismail Shammout and his wife Tamam el Akhal. Shammout and Al Akhal are considered the Palestinian Rivera/Siqueros for their portrayal of the Palestinian struggle, and pre-1948 Palestinian scenes. After a 30 year exile, they returned to Palestine for the first time, and visited their hometowns of Yaffa and Lid.
JANUARY-FEBRUARY, 1997 UPDATE
The big news was the award of the design competition for
the renovation of the grounds of the garden to the architectural conservation
firm Riwaq, which had
already restored the main building. Work will begin in March, to be completed
this year.
The KSCC hosted a number of activities over the last 2
months:
A recital by Mezzo-Soprano Tania Nasir, accompanied by composer Rima Tarazi on the piano, singing songs by Palestinian poets.
A recital by the Moroccan Imam Bousiri troop on the eve
of the Eid El Fitr, the successful concert lasted three hours due to the
public's demands. The troop was in Palestine for the Jerusalem Festival.
Literature:
A poetry recital by poet Wassim El Kurdi, reading a selection of poems from his new collection "Nassij El Nar".
The KSCC hosted a discussion on the first novel of poet Zakaria Mohammed "Al 'ayn al m'utima" (the blank eye) This powerful new book, bathed in a magic realist horror, is set in a village attacked by hyenas where a number of inhabitants, each with a fantastically bizarre personal history, struggle against the scourge.
Screenings:
The Centre hosted the screening of the Carlos Saura documentary
"Flamenco", and two films on ancient and modern architecture
in Norway.
Lectures:
The KSCC hosted a lecture by Dr. Nazmi al Jubeh of Riwaq
on the architectural and social history of Ramallah.
December, 1996:

* Opening of the Acre copperworks exhibit,

* First Oriental Improvisations Concert,
* Meeting between Palestinian actors and stage professionals,
and American actress Kathleen Turner,
* Creative writing workshops for young writers,
* Palestinian theatre strategy workshops,
* Opening of the Abdi exhibit in Nablus, and organisation
of a meeting between the artist and the fine artsfaculty students
of the Najah University.
October, 1996;

September, 1996:
*UNDP-sponsored lecture on sustainable cultural development,
* Meeting between Palestinian and Israeli intellectuals,
