Job Announcement

Editor, Middle East Report

The Middle East Research and Information Project, a progressive non-profit organization, is seeking a dynamic full-time editor for in-house production of its award-winning quarterly magazine, Middle East Report.

The editor assigns and commissions articles in collaboration with the Editorial Committee of the Board (comprised of leading scholars and activists working on a voluntary basis), coordinates the schedule of the magazine with the publishing house, as well as the executive director, associate editor, and the media director, and is responsible for editing all published materials.

He/she is ultimately responsible for the editorial content and timely appearance of Middle East Report magazine and other MERIP publications, and is consulted on design and production. He/she plays a central role in the organization and helps define and project the mission through networking and media relations.

Required qualifications include:

  • Excellent written, spoken and personal communication skills;
  • In-depth knowledge of the contemporary Middle East and of the policies of the US and other countries;
  • A minimum of three years of experience in editing/writing (preference given to those with strong editing background), including copyediting and proofreading;
  • Demonstrated commitment to progressive politics;
  • A detail-oriented, highly organized approach to work;
  • Knowledge of word processing software;
  • Knowledge of email and internet-related software;
  • Knowledge of page layout programs is also desirable.

Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
