TO MANAGE A NETWORK OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY NODES
This was the title of the workshop held in Birzeit University between the 22nd and 24th of July 1998, it was one of the workshops conducted by the Bureau of van Dijk in the Mediterranean countries. Palestine was the third country after Tunisia & Jordan to have the workshop. This workshop discussed the importance of establishing an information society that should play a major role in developing IT in the Mediterranean countries. Such a society emerges by establishing a network of information technology nodes; these nodes have a virtual and horizontal structure that should perform as a coordinating body in order to gather partners, conduct research, and trigger working projects that develops IT in the community. ITN’s divides the needs of IT in any country into five main domains: E-commerce, Multimedia, technologies for business processes, Software quality, High performance computing and networking.
Participated in the workshop head of computer center in Birzeit University, Al-Najah university, representative of computer Engineering department of the polytechnic, and of the electrical engineering department in Birzeit university, head of computer department in ministry of culture, &ministry of industry. Ending this workshop, participants agreed on being the first node whose responsibility is spreading awareness of ITN’s in the Palestinian community by conducting seminars in the main cities of Palestine.
