Who's Who at Birzeit University
University Governance
The University is governed by an autonomous Board of Trustees composed of educators and professionals from the Palestinian community. The Board appoints the President of the University. It also confirms the appointment of the Vice-Presidents and Deans upon the recommendation of the President. The Board approves the budget and general development plans presented to it by the University Council, which is composed of the President, Vice- Presidents and Deans.
Besides the drafting of the budget and the development plans, the University Council has the over-all responsibilities of the organizational management of the University.
The University has three Vice Presidents: a Vice-President for Academic Affairs, a Vice-President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and a Vice-President for Planning and Development. Each Faculty has a Dean who is responsible for its administration. Faculties consist of a number of degree-granting departments and supporting programs; departments are headed by Chairpersons and programs are headed by Coordinators.
Formulation of the general policies, rules and regulations pertaining to academic affairs is the responsibility of the Academic Council, which is composed of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, the Deans and elected faculty members.
