Zakaria Mohammed started sculpting five years ago, without any formal training. His sculptures appear to have been found in archeological excavations: Their strong primitive style recalls the small propitiatory statues used in the early antiquity period in the Fertile Crescent. The sculptures’ forbidding aspect, and tortured style, add to their power of expression. They reflect the dominant themes of Mohammed’s literary works: Canaanite folklore ghouls and demons, fertility rites, etc..

The sculptures are executed in three media principally: Jerusalem stone (pink and white), wood, and insulating material. Sculptures are small to medium in size, the largest are only 65cm. high.
