The father of critic Fakhri Saleh receiving his sons
award from President Arafat & Culture minister Yasser Abed Rabbo. Saleh
, who lives in Jordan, was denied entry into Palestine by the Israelis
The most important news of this month, was the award of the
first annual Palestine Prizes. The awards were announced in October, and
were presented by President Arafat to the winners at Najah University in
Nablus. For more information, see the October News Section.
Theatre:
Representations of the Palestinian adaptation of Death & the
Maiden, by the Qassaba Theater Company, continued in Jerusalem.
Literature:
- The second annual Palestinian book fair was held in Bethlehem.
The fair was attended by a great number of prestigious Arab publishing
houses. The only foreign country invited to participate was France. A number
of activities were held on the margins of the fair, such as lectures, roundtables,
readings, etc.. Poet Mureed Barghouti attended the fair, & gave a reading
there, and in El Bireh.
- Poet Ali El Khalil published a new collection of essays, under the title of "Al Nass al Mouareb", (Texts Ajar). The collection was published by Hebrons Dar El Moustaqbal, and is a reflection on representations of the Palestinian Question in Arab intellectual discourse.
