* The main cultural and artistic events that took place in Palestine this month were:

-  A recital by Israeli pianist Daniel Barenboïm at BirZeit University, in a gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Dr. Edward Saïd introduced Barenboïm prior to the concert. More information in this link: http://www.birzeit.edu/bzunews/1999/jan/29.html.

- The Ashtar Theater premiered their adaptation of Lebanese novelist Hanan El Sheikh’s novel “Women of Musk and Myrrh”, in Jerusalem, in a joint production with the Swiss Marallam Theater Company. The play bears the Arabic title of the novel, Misk el Ghazaal, and is about four women living in a Gulf country.
