The 12th exhibit of Assad Azzi focused on different treatments of similar themes: the enigmatic figure of an Egyptian peasant riding on a donkey, half-erased old family pictures, a demultiplied self-portrait, most with diagrams and charts layered on top of the paintings, bringing to the surface the artist’s tools & the superficiality of art.
Azzi was born in 1955 in Shefa Amr, and lives in Haifa. He obtained
an MA from Tel Aviv University in 1985, and has widely exhibited in Palestine,
Israel, Europe and the United States. He is one of the rare Palestinian
painters to have participated in the Venice Biennial (1986).
