A project of this size and sensitivity demands careful design and organization. A local steering committee will oversee the project, buttressed by a broad international board of trustees that will accompany the planning and fundraising and provide the necessary international backing necessary to legitimate the project despite possible political objection from Israeli and Palestinian authorities.

The Organizing Committees The project, as indicated, is run by a joint Israeli and Palestinian steering committee chosen by the Board of Jerusalem Link , which together agreed on to the main the and the work plan. The core group of the steering committee consists of members of the Jerusalem Link, with additional women and men cooped by consensus.

The joint steering Committee is responsible for overseeing all phases of the project and for implementing the following tasks :

1. Overall supervision of the project.

2. Hiring of two procedures ( one Israeli and one Palestinian ).

3. Approval of the hiring of additional administrative and professional staff.

4. Mobilization of Palestinian and Israeli voluntary organization to participate in the project.

5. Recruitment of volunteers.

6. Creation of separate professional sub-committees to supervise the cultural, geographic, academic and political activities.

7. Monitoring publications and publicity.

8. follow-up.

The Palestinian and Israeli partners will also establish separate Palestinian and Israeli organizing committees charged with the task of designing the activities aimed at their respective committee and assist in local preparations on each side. The joint steering committee, the separate organizing committee and the professional sub- committee will be coordinated by full- time administrators working under the supervision of Dr. Sumaya Naser, the director of the Jerusalem Center for Women. and Dr. Daphna Golan, the Director of Bat Shalom.

The International Board The purpose of the international board is threefold: One) to involve as many internationally- known personalities, performers and intellectuals in the project. Two) to augment the impact of the project and the boundaries of the Middle East. Three) To help overcome possible objections from the authorities to certain planned activities. The international coordination of the project is central to its success.

Simone Susskind, who initiated the two conferences in Belgium that led to the creation of the Jerusalem Link ( in 1989 and 1992 ), has agreed to coordinate international efforts, in cooperation with Luisa Morgantini in Italy and Leila Shaheed in France. The international coordinating committee will form an international board consisting of prominent figures on the international scene, facilities finding and publicity preparations and organize foreign visitors for the week of Sharing Jerusalem events.

The local and international boards will share responsibility for the production and implementation of the project ( with at least two meetings of the international and local steering committees envisioned during the planing stage ) and will work together to develop follow- up activities in the spirit of the guiding theme of living together in Jerusalem.
