The Community based rehabilitation Program

Background

Based on experience from the rehabilitation work with the Disabled persons during and after their stay at the center, and on initiatives of the surrounding communities, the patent's friends society/ Ramallah and the health services council/Jerusalem have taken the initiative to support a model CBR program in the area.
A catchment area is 23 villages in the West rural area of Ramallah, and two refugeecamps in the Central area, a population of 6100. The estimated number of disabled persons is 4%.

Goals

1- The social integration of all disabled persons in their communities.
2- The support of the local communities to assume full responsibility of disabled members.
3- The contribution towards a comprehensive rehabilitation program for the country through cooperation, cooerdination, mobilization and suse of available services, evantually leading to building a rehabilitation infrastructure for a future government.

Role of K . Abu Raya Rehabilitation Center

The vision for us at Abu Raya is to ultimately develop towards the role of National Referral Center.
This can be achieved by the promoting and support of Community Based Rehabilitation Program in the local commuinties.

In Service Training

The K. Abu Raya Rehabilitation Center has just completed a three month in-service training course for community rehabilitation workers recruited from local communities in the rural villages.
The training is based on a WHO Model, adapted to a palestinian setting.
Continuing education will be further designed based upon feedback from the field.
