• "For a Shared Jerusalem" by Rashid Khalidi
  In this February 7, 1997 statement at the National Press Club Khalidi, Professor of History at University of Chicago, makes the case that Jerusalem has always been characterized by a rich and diverse cultural ethos. Because of this unique character as well as its political importance for Arabs and Israelis, he argues, the unilateral Israeli domination is a denial of the city's diverse history and a prescription for continued conflict. Khalidi's remarks were part of a debate held by the National Press Club on the future of Jerusalem.
• "Stop the Quiet Deportation from Jerusalem," -Report by the Israeli human rights organization B'Tselem on current Israeli measures designed to limit the Palestinian population in Jerusalem.
  
• "Has Israel Annexed East Jerusalem" by Ian Lustick, Middle East Policy, January 1997. In this article, Lustick argues that "from any international perspective...neither annexation nor the extension of sovereignty that attaches annexation has occurred." Thus, the legal and political status of East Jerusalem is not, according to Lustick, "the settled and deeply embedded constitutional question that most assume it is" and that this reality "can assist serious negotiators to construct a mutually satisfying set of arrangements for sharing...Jewish and Arab Jerusalem." The operative word here, of course, is "serious."

• Foundation for Middle East Peace The site offers the Foundation's well-documented reports on Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. The 1994 Special Report on Jerusalem provides a useful background to Jerusalem, focusing primarily on Israeli policies and its attempts to unilaterally decide the fate of both halves of the city.

One can also read and download a petition, co-sponsored by the Israeli women's organization Bat Shalom and its Palestinian counterpart, The Jerusalem Center for Women, calling for the sharing of Jerusalem.
