Municipality of Jericho has accomplished a very important project which is a public park called the Spanish Park. This is a nice place for the people of Jericho as well as for the tourists to spend their time.

Al-Shalal Tourist Resort A-Shalal tourist project is situated on a land of ( 5500 sq. meters ). It includes a variety of swimming pools, quite family sessions' areas. The Jericho Community Center

The Jericho Community Center ( JCC ) is under construction by the Committee for the Promotion of Tourism in the Governorate of Jericho. It is an aspiring project that will cost US $ 1.5 million when completed.

The JCC is established on an area of 150 000 square meters, (150 dunums) of land that is rented from the Palestinian Moslem Waqf ( Religious Endowment ). It lies on the south eastern end of Jericho, near the PARC agricultural society and the iron-mill of Jericho.
The JCC will include the following facilities:
1. A football-Playing ground with a track for other sports.
2. A horse-back riding club for jumping and racing.
3. A fitness Center.
4. Offices and Cafe' shop.
5. A closed Gym.
6. Winter camping site.

At the moment construction has started on the first phase which includes building the football playing ground only and 24 stables and leveling the land.

The JCC is being constructed by the Committee for the Promotion of Tourism by donations from private citizens, local and international organization.

Independence Park and the Memorial Monument of Martyrs

The Independents Park and the Memorial Monument of Martyrs was established in 1997 by the Committee for the Promotion of Tourism in the Governorateof Jericho. It lies in Ain-es-Sultan Refugee Camp, north of Jericho on the Jericho-Nablus-Beisan Road. It is established on an area of five thousand square meters ( five dunums ) that was put at the disposal of the Committee by UNRWA ( the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugee in the near east ). The establishment of the Independence Park and Memorial Monument was possible through generous contributions from the Palestinian Authority, PECDAR ( the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction ) the World Bank, UNDP, the Consulate General of Sweden in East Jerusalem, local banks and companies and private citizens.

Construction on the site started on 16 April 1997 ( the memorial day of the martyrdom of the Palestinian leader and Deputy Commander Khalil Al-Wazir/ Abu Jihad ) and was finished on 3 August 1997 on the anniversary of the birth of President Yasser Arafat. The Park was officially inaugurated by President Arafat on 3 January 1998.

From its name the Park has two parts a garden and a memorial monument. The memorial monument consists of a stage and a marble needle on which all the names of the martyrs of the Govermorate of Jericho are inscribed.

The Garden has a green area, a playing area for children, a stone chess-board, seats, a fountain and a cafe'-shop. Admittance is free of charge for all.

The Committee for the Promotion Tourism in the Governorate of Jericho (CPT)

The CPT was established on the 30 January 1996 and commenced its preparations and works on 15 July 1996.
we are concerned citizens who live and work in the Governorate of Jericho. We are private citizens, some or us work in the PNA, others in the private sector. We came together in order to promote tourism and because we care for developing this Governorate.

The CPT has two bodies: the Executive Committee made up of 13 represents a wider participation of work and the General Council that represents a wider participation of all those who are interested in promoting tourism in the Governorate.

The CPT is a non-governmental association and a non-profit organization. It is registered as such in the Palestinian Ministry of the Interior under License Number JR. 602/B on 8 November 1997. We have no budget and no office. We collect donations to carry out certain projects which we deem fit and we welcome any donations made to support our work.

We understand ourselves to be a pressure group, a lobby, to influence the PNA and the private sector to promote tourism in the Governorate. Our aim is to bring closer the views of the two main actors and elements in any development, i.e. the authority and the private sector.

We also aim at helping the private sector in their dealings with the PNA in order to find solutions to the problems that they face in terms of building the infrastructure.
We also aim at pinpointing the deficiencies in the touristic locations, including MOTA and other ministries, so as to find solutions.

The Projects of the CPT include the following:-

1- Reviving and running the Prophet Moses Festival in 1997 and 1998.
2- Tree-planting in Jericho 1997 and 1998.
3- Independence Park and Memorial Monument of Martyrs (constructed in 1997)
4- workshop on development and investment opportunities and
obstacles in the Governorate of Jericho.(2-3 March 1997).
5- Photo Exhibition on Jerusalem.(August 1997).
6- Jericho Community Center (under construction).
7- Cultural events:
* Showing a film on the Palestinian Poet Mahmoud Darwish. (1998)
* Printing Posters. (1997-1998)
* Publishing a book on Jericho 1997 and another on Propagate Moses shrine1998.
* Cultural evenings.

The Arab Development Society ( ADS )

The Arab Development Society is the oldest continously operating non-governmental organization ( NGO ) in Palestine. It was established in 1945 by a resolution of the League of Arab States in support of a project proposed by Mr. Musa Alami, the then elected spokesman of Palestinians both at the League and other fori. In 1952 ADS was re-registered under Jordanian law, and with the Palestinian Authority in 1996.

ADS operates under a basic Charter and comprehensive internal rules and regulations. It is a non-political, non-profit welfare society, primarily concerned with serving rural Palestinian communities. Its main goals are :

Raising the health and living standards of Arab rural communities.
Improving artisanal and agro-industries.
Enhancing environmental health through afforestation and commercial tree plantation.
Encouraging cooperatives.
Provision of free agricultural and industrial training to orphans and destitute Arab youth.

For many years, ADS's main welfare activity has been the education and vocational training of Arab youth, the cost being partly financed from the income of a 2000-acre crop and dairy farm producing pasteurized milk and high quality youghurt and soft and hard white cheeses. In addition, the farm offers opportunities for training in poultry production, field and horticultural crops and agricultural machinery.

While maintaining these activities ADS is currently widening the scope of its work and has identified the following fields as suitable for its intervention.

Cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture and Faculties of Agriculture and others in the way of offering them field facilities which they now mostly lack.

Increasing milk production in rural areas by providing farmers with high quality heifers from ADS herd through a scheme involving credit, milk collection, artificial insemination and veterinary services.

Rural extension through the demonstration of improved farming varieties and practices, initially on ADS farm, and elsewhere as opportunities arise.

The offer of certain facilities on the farm for community activities including meetings, workshops and other cultural functions.
