In my first gig I was Fantasia, beloved diva ruling the home of thespians
Cheri Charney and her husband, The AmazingAndy. I'm not sure what made
him so amazing, but if he wanted to think that, I had no problem with it.
I did have a problem with him yelling at me, but I have since discovered
that men married to charming women all seem to be loud.
Cheri had a second baby coming soon, and she was recovering from an
accident, and I was so affectionate, which is my nature, that she wanted
to give me a more relaxing home.
Not wanting to deprive me of a theatrical setting, where I would be appreciated
for my presence alone, Cheri sent me to the Cork Ranch, to be surrogate
child for Mama and Papa Cork, whose performing sons had all grown up and
gone away for other stages.
After a testy first week when the crude Papa Cork tried to force me
out from under the couch with a rope weighted by a cloth mouse that he
was swinging, I managed to adapt to this new place, and my new name of
Cuddles.
Mama Cork is simply wonderful.
Papa Cork is barely tolerable, but as I said, I expected that.
