Fees and Academic Calendar 1999/2000

Summary of Fees (in US$)

Application and housing allocation fees should be mailed with the completed application form to Birzeit University. Application payments, payable to "The PAS Program, Birzeit University", should be made by traveler's checks in U.S.$ and drawn on U.S. banks. Postal orders and other methods of payment cannot be accepted.

1. Application fee - $50
2. Registration fee - $25
3. *Tuition - $600 each Arabic language course. $500 each social science course.
   Tuition fees are payable at registration. If courses are dropped during the first week of classes, students receive a 35% refund of the tuition. However, no refund is given if courses are dropped after the add/drop week. Courses may be changed during the first week of classes. Tuition fees and other payments may be paid by traveler's' checks, or in cash, on registration day.
   * Please note: Starting with the academic year 2000/2001 tuition fees for Arabic language courses will be US$650, and for social sciences courses US$550.
4. Accident insurance fee - $25
   Accident insurance is available through the University upon arrival. It covers students against accidents for activities related to the PAS Program and is for the duration of the Program only. This is in addition to the health insurance, which each student must carry from his or her country of origin.
5. Housing allocation fee - $50
   The University will assist students in finding accommodation, as far as possible in accordance with the type of housing indicated on their application form. The University will direct students to their houses and dormitories on the first day of orientation. Students will be responsible for all rent and associated payments to their landlords and hosts.

   Students should budget as follows:

   • US$100-150 per month for a shared room in an apartment in Birzeit village.
   • US$150-250 each month (depending on whether it is a single room or a shared room) plus utilities for the all-women hostels in the town of Birzeit (meals not included.)
   • US$200-250 each month for a single room in an apartment.
   • US$300 - $350 per month for food and transport.
   • US$200-300 each semester for miscellaneous expenses (i.e. entertainment, trips, travel, etc.)
6. Library deposit - $25
   A library deposit is payable at registration and is refundable at the end of the semester.
7. Student Identification Card - $7
