Awards of Excellence

The Awards of Excellence Ceremony was held at Bethlehem
University in honor of 367 students. It
is interesting to note that 22% of those who received highest grades were
females.
In his opening remarks, Brother Neil Kieffe, FSC, Vice
President for Academic Affairs stated that this is a very special day; the third
time that the Award of Excellence Ceremony is being held, but this year the
political circumstances are difficult, so he congratulated the students on being
able to excel despite the shooting and bombardment.
He announced that pictures of the honored students will be posted in two
locations on campus; thus emphasizing the importance of academic excellence at
Bethlehem University.
 Brother
Neil also acknowledged the financial contribution of donors who are making
education possible at this University. He
acknowledged with appreciation the financial help and all other aspects of
assistance B.U. is receiving from its friends.
He also noted the special donor who granted J.D. 1 per
credit hour to every student, at an approximate total of J.D. 30 per student.
An anonymous donor contributed J.D. 60,000 in order to help reduce the
cost of education.
This year, the Fareedeh Aby Dayyeh-Al Budeiri Nursing
Scholarship was awarded to Mr. Mohammad Khleif.  On
behalf of Mr. Jamil Al Budeiri, Mr. Hani Abyu Dayyeh offered the Scholarship,
and stated reading from a text written by Mr. Budeiri:
A long time ago, I studied at the Arab College in
Jerusalem, and I learnt to start my address with a positive note, but this time
because of difficult circumstances I have to say that I am unable to be with
you. He stated that the Scholarship
is not about money but rather about accomplishment, and he expressed hope that
God will lead the students into becoming leaders who promote a free and
democratic Palestine. Mr. Al
Budeiri added that his mother was a pioneer in her accomplishments; as a
Palestinian Arab, and as a woman who traveled to Beirut in 1915 to study there.

Nursing Award
At the end of the Awards of Excellence Ceremony, the
audience was entertained to a musical presentation by the University Choir led
by Sister Patricia Crockford.
