INTRODUCTION :
The Audiovisual Center, established in 1978, is a
special facility for the faculty, staff and students of Bethlehem
University. The Center is located in the basement of Bethlehem
University library. It offers a wide range of audiovisual, production
and support services to the academic community. The collection consists
primarily of nonbook materials and equipments to support the
instructional programs.
COLLECTIONS :
A.V. Materials :
The Audiovisual Center collects the following
materials:
- Audiotapes;
- CD-ROMs;
- Filmstrips;
- Maps;
- Microfiches;
- Microfilms;
- Motion pictures;
- Multimedia kits;
- Overhead transparencies;
- Phonograph records;
- Reel-to-reel tapes;
- Slides;
- Videocassettes.
The A.V. materials can be identified, retrieved,
and accessed by using:
- The A.V. card catalog : It lists materials held
by the AVC and is divided into two sections : author/title and
subject. It is located in the basement, near the Special Collections
Room.
- Listing of video titles : This list is arranged
alphabetically by subject matter.
A.V. Equipment :
The A.V. equipments include the following:
- 16 mm film projector;
- Camcorder;
- CD-ROM Reader;
- Filmstrip projectors;
- Hardware;
- Microcomputers;
- Microfilm-fiche - reader-printer;
- Monitors;
- Opaque projectors;
- Overhead projectors;
- Slide projectors;
- Tape recorders;
- Videocassette recorders.
A.V. SERVICES :
The A.V.C. provides a variety of services:
Apple Macintosh Computer :
The Center has an Apple Macintosh SE and laser
printer. Faculty and Staff members can make use of this equipment to
produce curriculum - related materials. A fee is charged to the
department for printouts. Reservations are required in advance.
Reserve shelf :
Faculty place listening or viewing assignments for
their classes. These materials are kept in the A.V.C. and are arranged
by course number.
Graphic Design & Photographic Services :
The A.V.C. has the basic facilities to produce
some graphic materials, including overhead transparencies and visuals. A
limited range of photographic work is also carried out by the Center.
Standard services include general photography and slide production for
teaching.
Instructional & Reference Services :
Orientation tours, instructional sessions and
workshops are conducted by the A.V.C. for new faculty and students.
A.V.C staff members also assist users in finding information and
materials.
Playback services :
The A.V.C. provides equipment for playback of many
different audiovisual formats, including CD-ROMs, videocassettes,
slides, filmstrips, audiotapes, pictures, records and transparencies.
A playback room (L3) is available and equipped to
display a variety of nonprint formats. It accomodates 55 people. This
room may be reserved by faculty members and students when a media
program is an integral part of a class presentation.
Recording/Duplication Services :
The A.V.C. may record special lectures in audio or
video format. Duplication service provides single or multiple copies of
pre-recorded programs. These services are restricted to faculty members
only.
CD-ROM Service :
The A.V.C. is equipped with a CD-ROM player and a
small collection of CD-ROM titles are available for teachers and
students.
BORROWING PRIVILEGES :
Faculty, staff and students may borrow audiovisual
materials and equipment and use them either in the A.V.C. or on campus.
Reservations for equipment and playback room (L3) should be made 3 days
in advance of the date of use. They may be made by filling out the A.V.
reservation form available in the A.V.C.
LOAN PERIODS :
Students can borrow certain pieces of equipment /
A.V. materials only for the day with the presentation of a valid library
card. All items must be used in Room L3, in the A.V.C or on campus. They
should be returned not later than 3:30 p.m.
A.V.C. HOURS :
Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
