Latest Developments No. 51 - Tuesday 7 November 2000,Web posted 11:30pm (GMT+2), Ramallah, West Bank

An Israeli imposed closure remains in place throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Clashes erupted in a number of areas this afternoon, with 3 Palestinians killed and at least 110 Palestinians injured. Israeli settler attacks on Palestinian residents either travelling on major roads, attempting to harvest olive orchards, or in residential areas continue, in addition to bulldozing of Palestinian agricultural lands and uprooting of olive and fruit trees.

Mahmoud Amin Al Khafash, 7 years old from Marda Village, near Salfit, was run over and killed by an Israeli settler this afternoon.

Abdullah Khalid 'Amarnah, 24 years old from Dheisheh Refugee Camp, Bethlehem, was shot and killed today in Bethlehem as a result of live ammunition to his chest.

Sa'id Hamid Abu Khatleh, 24 years old, from Rafah, died today as a result of injuries sustained on 3 November from live ammunition to his abdomen.

Bethlehem
Clashes erupted this afternoon in Bethlehem, with at least 15 Palestinians reported injured. Abdullah Khalid 'Amarnah, 24 years old from Dheisheh Refugee Camp, Bethlehem, was shot and killed today as a result of live ammunition to his chest.

The Israeli military shelled with tanks and heavy machine gun fire residential areas in the center of Beit Jala and Aida Refugee Camp between 9PM until 11PM this evening. At least 10 Palestinians have been reported injured thus far, including a 13 year old girl from Aida refugee camp who was injured by shrapnel to her hands and upper body while in her bedroom after shells directly hit her home. A number of homes have been reported damaged as a result of the shelling, including St. Nicholas Church and the Orthodox Club of Beit Jala, and fires starting after the shelling. Further information on injuries and damage is not yet available. Later this evening, the Israeli military attacked residential areas of Beit Sahour with heavy machine gun fire.

Hebron
Clashes erupted this afternoon in a number of areas in Hebron, with at least 17 Palestinians injured, 9 of which are from live ammunition. The Israeli military raided a number of neighbourhoods in the Hebron area, searching homes, destroying property, beating and arresting residents. Israeli settler attacks on Palestinian residents were reported throughout the day. At approximately 11PM this evening, the Israeli military attacked residential areas in Hebron with heavy machine gun fire. The Israeli controlled sections of Hebron remain under Israeli imposed curfew for the 40th day.

Ramallah
Clashes erupted this afternoon at the northern entrance of Al Bireh, with at least 10 Palestinians injured. Late this evening, the Israeli military attacked residential areas in Betunia and on the outskirts of Al Bireh with heavy machine gun fire. No further information is available.

Gaza
Clashes erupted throughout the Gaza Strip this afternoon following the funerals for Sa'id Hamid Abu Khatleh, 24 years old, from Rafah, who died today as a result as a result of injuries sustained on 3 November from live ammunition to his abdomen and Mohammad Mustafa Al Jazzar, 18 years old from Rafah, Gaza, who died yesterday as a result of injuries sustained from live ammunition to his head on 28 October. At least 57 Palestinians were injured as a result of live ammunition and rubber coated steel bullets. A number of those injured remain in critical condition, including: Mohammad Mahmoud Saker, 14 years old from Beit Lahiya, shot with live ammunition to his chest which settled in his back, in extremely critical condition; Mohammad Kamal Mansour, 17 years old from Nusseirat Refugee Camp, shot with live ammunition in his back, in critical condition; Mazen Yasser Timraz, 19 years old from Rafah, shot with live ammunition in his back, in critical condition.

Late this evening, the Israeli military shelled residential areas of Netzarim and Khan Younis with tanks and heavy machine gun fire. At least 5 Palestinians were injured as a result of the shelling, one of which is in critical condition. No further information is available.

Jenin
Clashes erupted this afternoon in Jenin, with at least 15 Palestinians injured from live ammunition, one of which is in critical condition as a result of live ammunition to his face. A new Israeli military installation has been erected near Tayasir village in Jenin.

Qalqilya
Late this evening, the Israeli military attacked residential areas in Qalqilya with heavy machine gun fire. In nearby Hijja village, the Israeli authorities bulldozed Palestinian agricultural lands and uprooted a large number of trees.

Tulkarem
Clashes erupted this afternoon in the Tulkarem area following the funeral of 14 year old Wajdi 'Allam Al Hattab who was shot and killed yesterday by live ammunition to his heart. At least 10 Palestinians were injured. A number of Israel settler attacks were reported during the day, in addition to reports of Israeli soldiers beating Palestinian residents.

Nablus
Israeli settler attacks against Palestinian residents were reported today throughout areas of Nablus. At least 15 Palestinians were severely beaten by Israeli settlers and soldiers, and 8 suffering injuries after being attacked by settlers while driving their cars. Late this evening, intermittent heavy machine gun fire was reported for a period of two hours on residential areas in Hebron. The village of Huwarra remains under curfew for the 31st day.

Salfit
Mahmoud Amin Al Khafash, 7 years old from Marda Village, near Salfit, was run over and killed by an Israeli settler this afternoon. Eye witnesses report that the settler hit Mahmoud while he was walking on the side walk, and then fled the scene.

Jerusalem
The Israeli military raided 3 neighbourhoods in Jerusalem today, searching homes, destroying property and arresting residents. Clashes erupted this afternoon in Al Ram, Dahiet Al Barid and near Kalandia Refugee camp, with at least 15 Palestinians injured.
