دائرة التوعية والتربية والإعلام البيئي:
قامت الدائرة بنشاطات مميزة في هذا العام وخاصة في مفاهيم المراكز البيئي لتأهيل القادة البيئيين الصغار وقد نجحت الدائرة من خلال كوادرها في تعزيز هذا المفهوم:

1) المركز الشتوي التاسع من 16-21/1/2006
الموقع : أريحا مدرسة زهرة المدائن الأساسية عدد المشاركين الأساسين 30 طالبا وطالبة . في اليوم الثاني شارك 100 طالب ليوم واحد في أعمال تطوعية لمناطق سياحية في أريحا مثل قصر هشام وتل السلطان.
2) المركز الصيفي العاشر من 5-8/6/2006
الموقع : بيت ساحور دار دكرت عدد المشاركين 30 طالبا وطالبة من مدارس مختلفة خاصة وحكومية ووكالة قام هؤلاء الطلاب بمجموعة أنشطة منها جولة في البلدة القديمة بيت ساحور بهدف التعرف على المعالم التراثية والثقافية في البلدة محاضرات خاصة بالتربية وكذلك زيارة إلى بلدية بيت ساحور للاطلاع على كيفية العمل لخدمة الجمهور والقيام برحلة ميدانية لزيارة مغارة خريطون وفي اليوم الأخير تم توزيع الشهادات على الطلبة المشاركين في المركز .

Migratory Soaring Birds

Migratory Soaring Birds and there Status within Jericho District
(Southern Part of the Jordan Valley)

More than thirty species of Raptors (Soaring Birds) pass through Palestine every Year, 6 of them are abundant and fully migratory species; these Raptors leave the western half of the Palearictic entirely (Honey Buzzard , Steppe Eagle, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Black Kite, Levant Sparrowhawk, Steppe Buzzard). Other raptors are less abundant such marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, Pallid Harrier Montague’s Harrier , Booted Eagle, Short toed Eagle, Bonelli’s Eagle Spotted Eagle, Egyptian Vulture, Osprey. Some other raptors are Passage migrant and Summer visitor, for example Short toed Eagle, Long Legged Buzzard, Egyptian Vulture, Lesser Kestrel. The wintering raptors include Black Kite, the 4 species of Harriers. The soaring birds also include White Stork, Black Stork, White Pelican and Cranes. These species unlike migratory raptors, they stop on the way to feed, rather than mainly or solely to roost. Storks and Pelicans are truly soaring birds, cranes are very large birds but considered as a semi-soaring bird.

Palestine is part of the Great Rift Valley, which lies in the south-western part of it. An area located at the junction of three continents Europe, Asia, and Africa, to the eastern shore of the Mediterranean. Just to the north of the equator between two-latitude 30` 30 and 15` 32 north, and between two-longitude 15` 34 and 40` 35 north, Palestine location together with diverse topographical features creates different climatic system that give it a fact of being one of the richest countries in the Middle East for birds. Therefore, several areas had a special importance as stop over sites, while others lie under major routes for migratory and passage bird species. In addition to many site that meet with Birdlife International and IUCN for Important Bird areas.
Upon this fact about 13 sites both in the West Bank and Gaza Strip were recognized to be Important Bird Areas in Palestine on a national level up to date.

Environmental education is a relatively new discipline. It was unknown to most people some 50 years ago. The environmental movement was formed in a short time, in comparison with other movements. Unlike other movements, it has made great progress since its establishment.

IBA’s in Palestine

Geographical Location: Palestine is located north of the equator between the latitudes N30` 30 N15` 32, and longitudes E15` 34 and E40` 35. Geographically it is located on the western boundaries of the Asian continent directly on the southeastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, as well as on the eastern boundaries of Africa. This geographical location places Palestine at the juncture of the European, Asian, and African continents, and at the center of the Arab world, which extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Arabian Gulf, providing the link between the Asian part and the African part of the Arab world.

Important Bird Areas

Important Bird Areas in Palestine (IBA's) Data is the first of its kind in the country. This data has been updated in accordance to internationally recognized scientific criteria, through a book produced by PWLS in 1999. This Palestinian IBA book is the first of its kind in the Middle East. It is also a national strategy for the conservation and management of birds and their habitats in the country. The results and recommendations in the IBA Program of Palestine was deduced in coordination and cooperation with the Palestinian Environmental Authority and it is compatible with the Palestinian Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan for 1998.

تعريف الطيور

الطيور هي ذوات الريش من الحيوانات الفقارية ذات الدم الحار والحرارة الثابتة (متوسط حرارة جسم الطيور 41 م) ، تحورت أطرافها الأمامية إلى أجنحة، وقلبها كبير الحجم نسبياً ومكون من أذنين منفصلين ومن بطينين منفصلين أيضاً، وتضع بيضا و لبيضها قشرة جيرية صلبة.
