The Municipality started this service in 1955 by installing a small generator for enlightening the town. In 1976, the municipality imported new generators and implemented a new electricity network. The gradual development of this service continued till 1992 when the local network was connected with the Israeli Electricity Company.In that year, the municipality installed the necessary transformers and high tension network for the industrial zone, inside the city and for the waste water treatment plant.

Some of the important needs of this section:

1. The construction of a high tension network for the Industrial Zone and the Old City with the necessary transformers. This network is of 3.5 kilometers long.
2. Preparing and maintaining the old low tension network.
3. Providing a car and electricity workshop.
4. Providing a winch vehicle for the implementation of the necessary works and maintenance.
5. Supplying the municipality with the different spare parts for the high and the low tension.
