Bethlehem- A Palestinian official accused Israel of shirking previous understandings regarding Palestinian displaced persons. Zuhdi Said, head of the PLO's delegation to the quadrilateral meeting on displaced persons held in Bethlehem in the West Bank last month, said "we did not come out with any tangible results, and we are not satisfied with the meeting because we did not achieve anything."
He added that the Israeli delegation evaded an understanding
reached in a former committee meeting held in Cairo last year
concerning the sending of four joint letters to UNRWA and the
Red Cross regarding the number of displaced Palestinians who were
forced to leave the occupied territories following the June 1967
Arab-Israeli war. "We were surprised by the Israeli attitude
because after 13 months the Israeli delegation did not have a
clear stand concerning these letters," Said said, adding
that "according to the Oslo Accords, the displaced Palestinians
were supposed to return home two years ago."
