| Dear
supporter:
As you well
know, PMWatch makes it a point to avoid taking money from any
source other than individuals. The strength of PMWatch is precisely
its total reliance for its success on the participation of its
members: first and foremost in the time and energy they put in,
but also in terms of enabling PMWatch to pay its bills.
As you also
know, no one at PMWatch receives a salary of any sort: everyone
involved is purely a volunteer, and all donations sent to PMWatch
are used only to pay outstanding bills. Indeed, we are still behind
our refunds to staff members who did not hesitate to put up their
own money, with only a promise that if and when we do get enough
funding we will reimburse them.
What kind
of expenses does PMWatch incur? Here is a short list of some of
the main expenses:
(1) * Web
site: Hosting and ISP fees, domain names, hardware
(2) * Snail
mail: sending out reports, pamphlets, books, etc., to editors,
journalists, etc.
(3) * Transportation:
meeting with editors and journalists; presenting at talks and
conferences
(4) * Newspapers,
books, and magazines: subscriptions to papers and magazines for
gadflies, buying books to send out to editors and journalists
(5) * Stationary:
envelopes, letter heads, business cards, etc.
To this
list, we add the real revenue drainer:
(6) * Advertising
PMWatch in key magazines and web sites
Expensive
as this may be, this is a key activity because our main goal at
this point, given that we believe that we have come to the bottom
line regarding what works and what does not, is to massively mobilize
against the US media. To do that, we need a whole lot more people
participating, and the only way we can do that is to make PMWatch
known to as many people as possible.
So, please
help us move forward without having to worry about our bills too
much. God knows the other side is awash with cash.
