Inquirer cartoon breaks a taboo

The Philadelphia Inquirer today (September 6, 2001) published on something no other American paper, as far I can remember, has dared to even discuss, let alone challenge: the notion that the Israelis offered the Palestinians the moon!

The Philadelphia Inquirer's cartoonist, Tony Auth -- who is nationally syndicated -- published the cartoon below that illustrates something we have been complaining about since the beginning of the intifadha: that the Israelis offered a non-viable state to the Palestinians, and not the sweet deal Friedman and his cohorts have been working hard to make us believe was offered by Barak.

Given the flak the Inquirer got when they published Jerry Long's piece a couple of weeks ago (prompting them to publish the Michael Kelly piece), you can be assured that the same will happen here: the pro-occupation zealots will unleash their hordes to intimidate the Inquirer and Auth to never again do this -- that is, stand on principle and show some gumption.
