PROFILE:  
 
   Panorama, the Palestinian Center for the Dissemination of Democracy and Community Development, is a non- governmental, non-partisan and non-profit organization founded in Jerusalem in 1991.  
     
    Panorama's aim is to participate in raising awareness of issues related to democracy, community development, civil society, citizenship, participation, pluralism, transparency, social justice, and the rights of women and children.   
     
    The center's staff includes both local and international volunteers and professionals.  The Center maintains an open-door policy for interested persons to collaborate and to support the main objectives of Panorama.    
   
    Panorama now has an office in Jerusalem and one in Ramallah.       
PURPOSE:   
  
  • To empower and prepare the Palestinian people for the construction of a civil, democratic and pluralistic society
  • To encourage respect, altruism, and citizenship, and to reinforce a sense of belonging as well as an eagerness for self-improvement and constructive participation in the Palestinian society
  • To prepare a new generation that will adopt democracy as a way of life and will fight to guarantee and protect the basic rights of the individual
  • To strengthen democratic leadership qualities among Palestinian youth
  • To promote the advancement of women and to support the acknowledgment of the independent identity of women
  • To collaborate with individuals and organizations throughout the Middle East and internationally who are interested in community development
      
ONGOING ACTIVITIES:  
  • Open civil  awareness seminars, democracy lectures and conferences
  • Training courses, workshops, and brainstorming sessions on topics mentioned above
  • Research and studies related to the center's work and goals
  • Regular publications of the outcome and assessment of the center's activities
  • A bi-monthly newsletter in Arabic and English
  • Active membership in committees and co-ordination networks locally, regionally and internationally
  • Developing partnership relations with similar centers around the world
  • Establishing a 'Network of Palestinian Youths' who identify with the main objectives of the Center

  • 1992/3 Series of Workshops on democracy  
  • 1992/4 "Panorama's Meetings" consisting of public round table discussions and a series of lectures about various Palestinian issues  
  • 1993 The first Palestinian International Conference on Democracy  
  • 1993/4 Training courses on democratic practices within Palestinian NGOs  
  • 1994  Publication of "Palestinians in Profile"  
  • 1994 The Second Palestinian Conference on Democracy  
  • 1995 Series of workshops on democracy within Palestinian NGOs  
  • 1996 Conducting a research project on Palestinian refugees  
  • 1997 Conducting a research project on Palestinian women's political participation  
  • 1997 Initiating the "Youth and Democracy" project
