The plan is outlined into three broad categories that characterize the proirity areas of the plan. They are Disease Prevention, Health Promotion, and Health Protection.
Disease Promotion:
Disease prevetion is the most vital service that the health plan could offer. These services include administrative and supporting services, counseling, immunization, or chemoprophylactic interventions for individuals in clinical settings. The priority areas for theses strategies include prenatal and infant care, coronary heart disease and stroke, cancer, chronic disabling conditions, sexually transmitted diseases, immunization and control of infectious diseases, health of the elderly, and genetic diseas control.
Health Promotion:
These are strategies that are related to individual life style (personal choices made in a social context) that can strongly influence a person's health. Some of these personal choices include physical activity and fitness, nutrition, smoking, alchohol, and other addictive forms of drugs, family planning, mental health and mental disorders, and violent and abusive behavior.
Health Protection:
The strategies for health protection are related to the policies that would ensure the protection of the majority. Thses include issues that address unintentional injury, rehabilitation services, emergency medical services, laboratory services, occupational safety and health, environmental health, food and drug safety, and oral health. Intervention addressing these issues are generally exclusively protective in nature. But the focus is on the community rather than the individual.
Disease Prevention
There are ways that the community as a whole can prevent disease.
