It was at this stage that the 8th Zionist Commandment of the principles defined by Herzl was revealed: Establishing the Jewish society in Palestine. Needless to say that the mission of building a society, which is the ultimate and necessary outcome emanating from the creation of the "state", is more difficult that the first mentioned process, even more dangerous and too-demanding by means of time. If Herzl set a period time of 50 years to succeed in giving birth to the mentioned "state" (this is what happened indeed, as the United Nations approved the project of creating the "Israeli state" after 50 years and 3 months of holding the Bazl congress in 1897, where Herzl announced his forecast at the end of it), this is because he was particularly aware that building the society would take an undefined spell of time, much longer than creating the Jewish society, as he wasn't able to predict it exactly.
It would clearly appear to us, if we carefully follow the situation of the "Israeli society" during the last 49 years of the state's establishment, that Herzl's dream of implementing this 8th Commandment is yet to be completely fulfilled; indeed, it would take another long spell of time before being brought to life. Hence, this is the only commandment that the Zionists failed to achieve, despite all the efforts exerted in this regard. The failure of achieving this target wasn't related to the swerving away from the adopted principle, nor to the escape from the full implementation, it was rather due to the difficulty in fulfilling it on the harsh logic groundwork and under the same circumstances that made the establishment of the desired society an extremely impossible task while turning out to be a relative easy option regarding the creation process of the Zionist "state".
It is clearly obvious that the societies, with their own nature, definition and history, are the pure product of their peoples and human elements, with all what they carry and inherit in terms of traditions and cultures, on a specific area or territory. Thus, a given society isn't just a mere artificial gathering of peoples on a land or territory never belonging to them, and never possessing true roots deeply established on its soil, nor is it an artificial gathering of various and contradicting cultures, civilizations, mentalities, languages, literatures and dispositions on a specific and single country, where its citizen were dispatched from overseas to establish their presence by force. Societies are a result rather than just a cause, they are the pure result of human beings' interaction, who are aware and respectful of the special and authentic links connecting between their elements, on a soil that hosts their own deep roots, and in an atmosphere filled by their genuine aspirations and feelings.
But how close are the Jews from the aforementioned comprehensive description, and how they would possibly create a society depending on this situation of non-belonging, in 5, 6 or 10 decades?
The biggest problem that Herzl and all his allies and successors of Zionism fathers and prominent leaders failed to solve, despite managing to overcome the other difficulties, was that they have been dealing with a scattered mosaic of different elements emanating from various ethnicity and places, and deeply separated by cultures, mentalities, approaches, traditions, moods and languages, having only the religion as the sole linking element. But even the religion aspects wasn't enough as a strong impact compared with the religions of other peoples, as it was a religion of a dispersed people scattered in many countries around the globe, and it wasn't (for 20 centuries) a religion of neighboring communities such as Islam, Christianity, Buddhism or Hinduism.
Saying that, the Jewish religion was (and still remains) an isolated one, preventing the "others" from joining it, and prohibiting the mind from endeavoring any interactive process with the others' ideas and thinking; Judaism is a religion heavily exhausted by history, a fact that led to its failure to recognize the development aspects of the world and the isolation in the "honors" of a deep past and various divine and human memories, tales, promises and conventions, which some of them were also exhausted by time, while the others being purely falsified, rendering Judaism as the most divine religion in the world which is exposed to uncertainty in its reliability and propounding. Finally, a substantial section of Judaism followers were seculars who never adopted the true meanings of their religion, r persons who striven to exploit the religion for personal purposes, either materially or politically.
Admittedly, the Jewish mosaic elements whom Herzl tried to organize in a vivid and efficient panel weren't able to embody this imaginary description, not only because of their separating aspect, but also because their religion was too weak to provide a real connection between all those elements; hence, Herzl and his successors managed to capitalize on the circumstances and powers in order to gather the Jewish people under the ceiling of a "state", but failed (and will continue to face the same outcome in the foreseeable future)to establish the true Jewish society in a "country" named "Israel"; creating a "state" could only be achieved through a firm political decision coupled by some appropriate circumstances, while establishing a society won't pave its way for life unless being presented with natural genuine facts never forced to be implemented by power and away from the logic atmosphere prevailing in the given region or land.
If Herzl possessed a much better viewing capability toward the future, compared to the think tanks of Zion's Lovers leaderships and their followers of wealthy Jews who were quasi-assimilated within the bulk of other societies and who intended to find a solution to the Jewish problem by purchasing or renting the land in Palestine to accommodate the deprived and oppressed Jewish emigrants (mainly those living in Eastern Europe and some regions of Central Europe) in order to establish their permanent presence, by means of securing the legal covering labeled by the international recognition for the newly-desired settlements, Herzl wasn't able (just like those who sought to enhance the reliability of the charitable Zionist movement) to transform the desired political entity, the independent and later expanded one in the far-reach future, into a solid single society providing the political entity with its full value, and the liability to survive and resist all the possible threats. The weak society from inside will remain extremely fragile despite being created within the frame of a powerful state which presents a source of terror to all its neighboring countries at any given time.
Yes indeed, the Zionist movement ultimately failed in its quest toward creating the new Jewish Zionist human being, albeit succeeding to turn him from a coward, oppressed and humiliated person into a citizen of a country rushing to kill, terrorize and threat the Arab world consisting of nearly 200 million persons.
50 years have passed since initiating the preliminary groundwork of creating the "state", and another 50 years followed the official announcement of the state's establishment, yet Zionism still dreams about establishing this new Jewish Zionist human being. This is why the person who lives in this new land forgets, ignores and surpasses everything separating him from his neighbor by means of multiplicity and incompatibility of languages, cultures, belongings, origins and traditions, even in many pure religious concepts and beliefs, and opted to deal with this neighbor (living alongside him in the Jewish entity) on the basis of collective citizenship and social belonging regarding the essentials, generalities and overall viewing, with the full preservation of disparities in the delicate details.
It would be wise to mention that the emigration to Palestine from the different regions of the world which led to the current "Israeli society" wasn't the only aspect behind the society's failure to find the cohesion between its various elements, even if it was the main reason resulting to it. Hence, there are many other aspects contributing to the shattered Zionist dream in building the structures of the desired solid and single Jewish society.
Firstly, the emigrant to Palestine begins to realize, either before the creation of the "state" or during its aftermath, that the land of Yogurt and Honey promised by God, the God of his ancestors, is neither a comfort nor a paradise, exactly, as it simply rejects him because he doesn't belong to it, and doesn't deserve it. Thus, he finds himself compelled to resort to his weapon, and involved in many wars forcing him to bear the security emergency life, the fear and vigilance in every moment, him, his family members and all the society's elements. In this context, the new emigrant finds that while he came to Palestine striving to enjoy ordinary life, he was astonishingly opposed to face death and the exposure to be killed at every single moment of his entire life; he was dreaming about raising a family and working for a decent established setting of prosperity and peace, only to be shocked by the fact that the utmost pleasure of this new life isn't more than just his survival under harsh military and emergency circumstances, and that his projects are yet to be achieved. "Israel" in his daily reality isn't Palestine for which he holds so many beautiful dreams when he still a member of the Diaspora's Jewry, he finally realizes that he is just an emigrant who went astray, a person who took the wrong train and landed at an undesirable final station. Both terror and vigilance are very difficult to bear, but how if this same person live under these very circumstances ,generation after generation, without any real hope of true tranquility and genuine peace of mind?
Secondly, the Israeli situation requires from the Jewish emigrant who came from overseas a constant sacrifice and giving, by means of money, blood and efforts; this is why he still endures the emergency situation for nearly a full century of time. As for the country's economy, it is completely consecrated to the military and security needs. The military conscription to the army is a far leading top priority than all he other professions in ordinary life, and its duty is a substantial element within the constant Zionist military duties which are fully implemented over every person's daily life affairs, regardless of his age or professional career.
Please do note that we are referring to a community that was historically renowned about its greediness and benefit seeking at any given price and through any adopted method, even if it was an illegal and rejected one, from the legitimate, humanitarian, moral and ethical points of view. We are not tackling this subject through the anti-Semite language (with all its racism and prejudice), but we directly invoke the history of Jews which was written and released by this people. We also rely on all the affidavits delivered by the Jewish people's prophets, philosophers, think tankers and leaderships (the ancient and modern figures). The pioneers of Jewish thinking also confirm in this context that the modern Jewish person, the one Zionist movement seeks to establish, is a person who is accustomed to take (by illegal methods and pure robbery), never having the decent virtue of giving.
Thirdly, the Zionists have uploaded the Jews from racist and isolated neighborhoods, the deprived and oppressed ghettos, to Palestine in order to escape from the poor and harsh living circumstances; the deliverance of Jews from this erratic atmosphere presented the pure warrant for the Zionist movement's initial presence, and the prime cornerstone toward persuading the world Jewry about the Zionist thinking: the persecuted Jews will find in it a salvage to escape from their misery by heading to Palestine, while the wealthy Jews will bear the full responsibility of securing the financial funds to hugely enhance the shape of the continuous emigration process, before and after its launching date. But the Jewish emigrant surprisingly found that he escaped from a small isolated neighborhood (a true ghetto) situated in a (mainly European) city, to get imprisoned in a wide isolated neighborhood with the name of "Israel". This is exactly the biggest failure of the Zionist movement had suffered until our present time: how far would it be possible to convince the Jew that this movement managed to solve his problem when he realizes that he was simply transferred from a prison to another one, from a small, limited and unpopulated one to a larger and populated prison, even much-demanding and highly stressing?
Fourthly, and "to add the cream on the cake" as we say, we should note that the vast majority of the desired "???Jewish society" elements in "Israel" had entered this "society" either as emigrants from the European, America, Asian or African continents, or from some of the Arab world's countries, or even those who were born in Palestine itself during one complete century, all of them carrying their own thinking, feelings, races, and all the deep thoughts of quarrel, individualities and selfishness, resulting in a vivid fact preventing the establishment of this society's infrastructures, and forcing it to get exposed to various dangers in its deep presence. I would rather content, here, to relate the titles of the continuous social conflicts deeply rooted in the Israeli entity, without tackling them in detail: the historical conflict which still remains nowadays after more than a century of the Zionist movement's creation, opposing the ORIENTAL AND Occidental Jews, that is the Sephardis and Ahkenazis, but also the other serious and deep rift between the Arab Jews and their counterparts from Eastern Europe, Western Europe and American origin, and between the White Jews and the Black and Yellow ones (namely those coming from the Third world countries). The vivid example of this situation recently presented itself in the shape of the Ethiopian Jews (Falasha) who are still suffering following their emigration to the occupied Palestine, from the official and popular discrimination in various fields, the occupational, monetary and ethical one, namely. Even their members who serve as soldiers in the Israeli Defense Forces aren't excluded from this harsh mistreatment and deep injustice, these persons who have been brought to the Jewish entity in order to face their imminent death while defending the interests of all the Jews of the world.
Fifthly, the difficulty, rather the impossibility to create a suitable balance between the various and contradicting belongings (the legitimate, logical, and existing ones) and the desired amalgamation that the "state" is required to guarantee between its diverse elements; the Zionist movement failed to adjust between both these aspects until our present time. For instance, let's take the language topic: the vast majority of world Jewry emigrants who came to Palestine during one complete century arrived with a deep lack of the Hebrew language knowledge, compensating it by dozens of other languages. Each foreign Jewish community came with its own different language; as for the Hebrew one, it was restricted to be the Zionist dream language. I say the Zionist dream language belonging to the Zionist fathers' dreamers, as most of these figures, including Theodor Herzl himself, have been ignoring the Hebrew language, even the latter was compelled to learn by heart a batch of few Hebrew words in order to announce the end of the first Zionist congress.
The early Zionist pioneers have been compelled to "force" on the new society a defined language (claiming it was the language of their heritage, ancestors and promises), so they sought to build schools and academic training institutions to foster the circulation of the Hebrew language, and accommodated the newcoming communities in various camps specialized in rehabilitating them and instruct the "language of the state". Despite all these exerted efforts, the Hebrew language remained used at present time by a minority of world Jewry, which prompts us to tackle this question: what kind of nationalism is that lacking the presence of a definitive language for its own people and followers, and what kind of contradictions in cultures, feelings, belongings and dealings would be forged through neglecting the language as a top priority element within any society's presence profile?
It is completely true that "Israel" isn't the only country at present time whose people uses different languages, even if the Hebrew one is the official language. The people of India, for example, speaks dozens of various languages, but its size equals 200 times the Israeli one, and India represents a sub-continent enjoying deeply-rooted history and cultures. China also boasts nearly 100 different languages, but its people are numbering around 250 times as much as its Israeli counterpart. The difference between both cases is that India and China have managed to link their peoples with a firm nationalistic binder, thanks to the genuine roots relished by their peoples during thousands of years in ancient time, in conjunction with an authentic history and tremendous civilization.
All the aforementioned happening lead us to the difficult path the Zionist leaderships have been trying to overcome in order to create the solid and single Jewish society, the one firmly supporting the establishment of a state eager to expand its borderlines deep into the Arab world. We aren't neglecting, however, the fact that these same leaderships have recognized this problem and tried to find an appropriate solution to it, but without any ultimate success, through instructing the Hebrew language in the rehabilitation camps, media settings and cultural outputs, as well as through 2 other methods intended to fuse the elements of the desired society:
Firstly, the Labor party initiated the so-called "Hebrew Labor" since the early periods of the British mandate reign over Palestine and the substantial growth of the settling activities and emigration waves to Palestine. The purposes of this policy have been characterized by the dispense with the Arab labor power, either in the agriculture, industry or building fields, or in all the unspecialized areas where the Arab workers have been openly available for mere financial rewards in return. We should insist in this regard that the boycott between Palestine's Arab and Jewish communities wasn't initiated by the Arab people against their Jewish counterpart (during the 30's), it was the Jews who began the implementation of this policy nearly 10 years before this period of time. The Jewish boycott was extremely enhanced band programmed, targeting the Arab individuals and merchandise in an overwhelming programmed process.
However, the prime goal lying behind the "Hebrew Labor" has been to strive to integrate the Jewish emigrant into the occupational and productive life in the new land of Palestine. A wide section of Jewish emigrants has been enjoying great expertise in the fields of money and business (trade and industry sections, namely), medicine, architecture, instructional learning, sciences and scientific specialization, while the settlements have been badly needing the agricultural farmers and workers in small occupational and manual fields; accordingly, thousands of the aforementioned experts in business and sciences (the 'White Collar') were referred to serve in agricultural, vocational and building programs in the settlements and their vicinities.
In this context, David Ben-Gurion, the spiritual father of the "Hebrew Labor", has been glorifying his policy to integrate the German Jewish emigrant who holds a doctorate in Chemistry or Physics within the framework of the Jewish society in Palestine, referring him to the farming and agricultural life, but also to the building field as an ordinary worker, just like thousands of other emigrants of highly educational standards. Ben-Gurion made of the "Hebrew Labor" an essential mission for every Jewish emigrant in order to build the society in Palestine, and the contribution in this global framework a pure license for Jews who will have the honor to serve "Israel". In this context, everyone who is not working isn't a pure Zionist. Every Jewish person is a Zionist and this is why he is compelled to work. It wasnt up to this person to choose the right place and size of work, it was the responsibility of the leadership. This is why the "Hebrew Labor" was the opposite page of the Jewish society on the board of the 8th Commandment, as each of them complement the other one, in order to establish the structure of the Jewish society in Palestine.
However, it looks like the "Hebrew Labor"
which contributed to the Zionization of many Jews in practice and life,
and managed to achieve the self-sufficiency of the Jewish society, wasn't
enough to fuse all the society's elements, and remained divided on itself
while the Diaspora's specters are still looming on the sky of this society
after the completion of the emigration, settling and adjustment processes.
