Israeli Aggressions

  July Monday 20 -1998:

Expulsion (1)
The "Israeli" occupation troops expelled this morning a man held in Khiam detention camp for six months and who was subjected to torture, security sources said. They said Khozai Jamil Barakat, 45, was driven to the government held territory through Zimraya crossing point in the Eastern Sector of South Lebanon.

Accused by helping Hizbullah fighters, Barakat was questioned by "Israel's" military intelligence apparatus. Barakat is now in hospital after suffering serious injuries as a result of torture at the hands of "Israeli" soldiers and their surrogates. He was held prisoner from his house in Hibbarieh last February. Barakat is an employee at the water company and has eleven children.

It should be noted here, that since "Israel" established the Khiam concentration camp, fifty Lebanese detainees have died as a result of torture. Moreover, "Israel" still holds about 130 Lebanese in Khiam and nearly 50 others in its prisons inside "Israel" breaching thus the international law and human rights standards.

Detention (2)
Civilians coming from the "Israeli" occupied enclave reported that "Israeli" troops had arrested two civilians - Imad Ahmad Soweid from the village of Debbine and Ahmad Youssef Al-Raghda from Khiam - and imprisoned them at Khiam detention center.

Closing a Crossing (3)
The "Israelis" hept the Kfar Tibbnit crossing closed for the second straight day. Security sources said the crossing was closed because (the "Israeli"-allied) "South Lebanon Army" militiamen refused to serve at the position, as it is regularly targeted by the resistance.

Expulsion (1)
The "Israeli" troops deported the citizen Abdel-Karim Noura, 46, taxi driver, from his village Debbine to outside of the occupied enclave via Kfar Tibbnit crossing point. The causes of detention remained unknown, while his family member are still in the village.

Noura's relatives mentioned that he had been under house arrest in Debbine after he had been interrogated four months ago. So, he preferred to be out of the occupied enclave.

However, the security sources reported that the national Imad Ahmad Soweid was released after he had been taken to Khiam detention camp ten days before.

  July Friday 24 -1998:

Three civilians martyred and one wounded in Arnoun Blast (1)
A delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross was awaiting permission from the Israelis last night to enter the village of Arnoun to retrieve the remains of at least one man who was killed in an unclaimed bomb blast late on Friday.

Hussein Mehdi Attieh, 19, was blown to pieces in the explosion which reportedly occurred beside a house owned by Ali Tawbeh in the occupied half of the village. The house was empty at the time.
"Israeli" troops investigated the scene of the blast on Saturday morning and took a wallet belonging to Attieh.

Initial reports said that, other than Attieh, Ali Olleik and his cousin Wissam Olleik, were also killed. But the Olleik's later arrived unhurt in Nabatieh.

An Internal Security Forces patrol was shot at by "Israeli" troops as it neared the site of the bombing on Saturday morning.

The circumstances of the blast were not immediately clear. Hizbullah said it had no information over the incident.

Tellingly, an "Israeli" pilotless reconnaissance plane was flying overhead at the time of the explosion. The drones can detonate roadside bombs by remote control, suggesting that the explosive device could have been planted by the "Israelis".

The ICRC requested permission from the Israelis to gather Attieh's  remains, which lie scattered over a field beside the Tawbeh house. The "Israelis" have so far denied permission. Around ten "Israeli" soldiers entered Arnoun yesterday accompanied by two tanks to conduct house-to-house searches and interrogate residents.

Eight residents have been detained by the "Israelis", including a 12-year-old boy, according to security sources.

Arnoun, lying 5km southeast of Nabatieh, lies in an uneasy no-man's land beneath the "Israeli" position in Beaufort castle. The population, most of whom have fled, is regularly harassed by Israeli patrols from the castle.
