Monthly report on "Israeli" aggressions in April 1999

"There were 127 "Israeli" air and ground aggressions in the month of April. Aerial aggressions constituted 33.7%, of the gross aggressions, in comparison with the 25.4% air aggressions constituted in March 1999.

"Arnoun was once again a victim of "Israeli" brutality. The electoral considerations in the "Israeli" entity has moved the military machine into the town which was annexed to the occupied zone amidst international indifference and blatant US bias covered by feeble pretexts.

However, the Resistance men have proven the enemy claims wrong, repeatedly striking the occupation’s outpost in Beaufort Castle and its road and wounding "Israeli" troops.

"Meanwhile, the Shibaa residents’ uprising went on amidst "Israeli" suppressive measures against the steadfast people.

""Israeli" warplanes carried out 29 raids on areas in the south and the western Beqaa targeting Wadi Zillaya and a Wadi between Jibal al-Bottom and Zibqeen twice on April 4; the woods of Jarjoua, Ain Boudoir, Mlita Hilltop, and Wadis between Jibal al-Bottom and Chaitieh twice on April 10; a Wadi between Jibal al-Bottom, Zibqeen and Yater on April 11 and 12; the area just before Zibqeen and al-Chaitieh on April 15; an area between Jibal al-Bottom and Zibqeen, and an area between al-Chaitieh and Zibqeen on April 17 and 18; the Chaitieh hilltops on April 23; the Mlita Hilltops, Mazraat Oqmata, woods of Jibaa, Western Hilltops of Toumat Niha, woods of Zibqeen, Baton Hilltop, and a wadi between Jibal al-Bottom and al-Chaitieh on April 23; the Mlita Hilltop, Mount al-Rafih, Ain Boudoir, Birket Jabbour Hilltops, northern Zibqeen, and a Wadi between al-Chaitieh and Jibal al-Bottom on April 27; and the Loweizeh Hilltops on April 28.

"The town of Habboush narrowly escaped a horrible massacre on April 4, when the "Israeli" enemy bombarded the town’s residential neighborhoods wounding eight civilians including six children.

"The victims were Fatima Ali Halwani, 2, Zeinab Khdeir, 8, Fatima Qassem Ayoub, 7, Alaa Qassem Ayoub, 6, Mostafa Habib Hjeij, 5, Khadija Ibrahim al-Homsi, 9, Latifa Shreif, 52, and Moussa Atriss, 27.

"The brutal aggression coincided with a similar bombardment that targeted the southern neighborhood in Arab Salim wounding eight-year-old Ali Khalil Hassan.

"On April 17, Abu Dhabi Television’s correspondent Qassim Dergham was hit in the back by an "Israeli" rubber bullet as reporters were taking pictures of occupied Arnoun residents.

"Furthermore, "Israeli" enemy on April 18 bombarded the southern neighborhood of Arab Salim wounding Jawad Mohammed Mosusa, 35.

"Three civilians were also wounded on April 23 when the occupation targeted the town of Kfar Tibet.

Regarding the "Israeli" suppressive practices inside the occupied zone, occupation forces on April 6 collectively expelled 18 people from the town of Shibaa, some of them are elderly, children, and women.

"The mass expulsion ignited an uprising in the occupied town led by its imam, Sheikh Ismail Dallah who called for “confronting this new campaign that aims at displacing the town’s residents”.

Dallah’s ensuing detention by the occupation’s proxy militia outraged the residents who gathered in front of the militia’s security HQ and tried to storm it.

The residents clashed with the militiamen manning the office using sticks and stones while collaborators used rifle butts. The residents were eventually able to free the Sheikh.

"The Shibaa deportees are: Khalil Ahmed Nabaa, 67, his wife Zobeida Mohsneh, 65, Hanaa Hareth Shehab, 35, her sons Maher Nabaa, 9, and Abdallah Nabaa, 6, and Ihsan Mohammed Nabaa, 16, Khalil Saab, 60, Radi Khalil Abu Hwaili, 67, his wife Fatima Abu Hwaili, 68, Waed Khalil Abu Hwaili, 7, Walaa Khalil Abu Hwaili, 35, Ayan Nasser, 25, Hourieh Hamdan, 50, Khadija Saeb, 55, Adib Rahal, 55, his wife Hanaa Abu Rizq, 45, and Bassam Rahal, 14.

"Moreover, occupation forces on April 12 expelled three children from Shibaa. They joined their parents who had been deported earlier.

""Israeli" occupation forces on April summoned for investigation three residents of Ibl al-Saqi which has been sealed off for six weeks.

"Three Lahd militia officers from al-Qlaia’ were also detained along with an "Israeli" officer following the theft of the Marjeyoun barracks office of former "Israeli" liaison unit commander Erez Gerstein who had been killed by the Islamic Resistance Mujahedeen.

"Some money, confidential documents belonging to the liaison unit, and the Lahd militia along with occupation military plans were stolen.

"The occupation which delayed unveiling the theft, feared that the stolen confidential documents may fall in the hands of Hizbullah. Therefore, the "Israelis" changed positions of "Israeli" and Lahd officers on April 3.

"On April 22, occupation detained Abdallah Mohammed Obeid Seif, 56, and his son Hassan Abdallah Seif, 25, following the occupation’s storming into the occupied town of Um al-Toot, a farm between the towns of Marwaheen and Yareen (western sector).

"Occupation also stormed into the town of al-Qlaia’ on April 21 following the mysterious killing of collaborator Gilbert Jabbour.

"On April 25, the enemy detained Jamil Ali Yassin from the town of Dibbeen. Mohammed Yassin (Dibeen) and Gharib Gharib (al-Khiam) were also arrested on April 30.

"On the other hand, occupation forces imposed nocturnal curfew in the town of Shibaa threatening that those who come out of their houses at night would be shot at without prior warning.

"The "Israeli" curfew came after the successful mass escape of militiamen which was the first of its kind as it included, besides the militiamen, their families.

"The desertion of George Rahal, Khalil Abu Hawili, and his wife Nadia Saab, on April 4, besides Ahmed Khalil Nabha and Fadi Khalil Nabha on April 8 (The Nabhas are borthers of the militia’s security official Mohammed who had recently fled the occupied zone) strongly shocked the "Israeli" and Lahdi security systems.

"On the other hand, "Israeli" war minister Moshe Arens on April 14 toured the occupied zone in a bid to boost the flagging morale of his forces and their collaborators.

Arens held a series of meetings with his officers and those of the Lahd militia command.

"On April 15, an "Israeli" military delegation of the northern command and the liaison unit toured the new outpost in Arnoun and
the Beaufort Castle outpost.

"The delegation supervised the new military measures adopted at this front which was equipped with sophisticated surveillance devices.

"Occupation created roads and broadened others in Marjeyoun, Bint Jbeil and Jezzine. "Israeli" forces cut trees for fear of bombs planted by the Islamic Resistance.

"The enemy also closed the Zimraya crossing on April 9 preventing Metropolitan Elias Kfouri from getting to Marjeyoun to head a mass.

"It also closed the Roum crossing on April 10 following the discovery of 4 roadside bombs. The Bater crossing was also closed on April 24.

"These aggressions resulted in wounding 16 civilians (including the Abu Dhabi Television’s correspondent), detaining 23 residents (including 3 Lahdi militiamen), expelling 22 civilians, and damaging 16 houses, four cars and the school in Arab Salim".
