Adel Tormus

The Lebanese hostage Adel Bahig Tormus (31 years) who was abducted from his village Talloussa (South Lebanon) by Israeli soldiers on 21/2/1986 is now in a very critical situation health wise, due to him being affected with meningitis and now is in Al-Ramla military hospital in "Israel".

The "Follow-up committee for the support of the Lebanese detainees in the "Israeli" prisons" with its base in Beirut issued a statement saying that the health of Tormus is deteriorating due to the intentional neglect of the "Israeli" authorities, since Askalan prison (where Tormus is detained) does not have ever the miasmal equipment in health care, there are in toilet or medical facilities , and the food lacks any nutritious ingredients to keep the prisoner healthy.

The detainees family who were informed by the "International Red Cross" of his ill health and has been taken to Al-Ramla Hospital since 3 months ago, held "Israel" responsible for what is or will happen to Adel Tormus health who has never been visited by a doctor since his detention in 1986.

The follow-up committee in its turn called upon the "International Red Cross" and the world Health Organization to practice its utmost pressure on "Israel" in order for Tormus to be released immediately considering that his critical health is an "Israeli" defilement of the Geneva Convention regarding prisons, especially that the verdict issued by an Israeli court for a 25 years imprisonment was given in the absence of a deference lawyer.

From another point, the European Parlaiment - after its resolution on the 25/5/1989 with regards of freeing the detainees Suha Bishara who is being detained by the Israeli forces, has condemned in a new resolution dated 23/10/1997 the continuation of the imprisonment of Bishara who has been in detention since 1988 after she tried to assassinate Antoine Lahd the commander of the militia that is collaborating with "Israel" in the South of Lebanon, the Parlaiment  also called for Bishara to be allowed to hare a fair trail within International law.

The European Parlaiment which based its condemnation upon article number five of the Geneva Convention regarding the rights of the civilian under foreign occupation, also demanded that "Israel" allow Bishara lawyer and relatives visiting rights, and also to allow the International Red Cross to enter Al-Khiam prison (built by the Israeli Army in 1985 in the village of Khiam in the South of Lebanon).

The French lawyer monique Bicar Ville who has been following up the files regarding Lebanese detainees in Israeli prisons since 1988 pointed out that "Israel" defies all human rights in its prisons where she said in an interview with the Lebanese Al-Nahar newspaper dated 13/11/1997: "The Lebanese detainees in the Israeli prisons are hostages , used as a means of pressure…. And these prisons represent a clear deferment of the Geneva convention regarding prisoners of war through insultive interrogations, the absence of any medical supervision , the administrative detention for long periods and keeping the prisoners in detention after the sentence period being over.
