Trials
of collaborators continue
The 21st batch of the
Israeli-allied militiamen to be judged on different charges of
collaboration with Israeli stood trial at the Military Tribunal on
Wednesday.
Eighty men were questioned in the presence of their attorneys and each answered
questions pertaining to the circumstances which led to his joining the militia.
Charges included revealing secret information on the army and the resistance to
the Israeli occupation forces and traveling to an enemy state. Most of the
attorneys asked for either clemency or acquittal in their clients cases. The
sentences had been expected to come out very late on Wednesday.
Earlier this week the court postponed the trial of more than 100 collaborators
at the request of their attorneys.
Meanwhile, Chief Investigating Magistrate Riad Talih issued arrest warrants for
seven collaborators facing the same charges after interrogating them on
Wednesday.
Two similar warrants were issued by investigating magistrate Abdullah Hajj
against two other militiamen.
