Collaborators
men face death for murders
Six former
Israeli-proxy militiamen who gunned down five Hizbullah fighters should
receive the death penalty if found guilty, Chief Military Examining Magistrate
Riad Talih said on Thursday.
Five of the militiamen confessed before the court that sometime between
1990-1993 they rounded up five Hizbullah members and shot them point blank in a
militia position near Shumraieh on the orders of Aql Hashem, the commander of
the occupied zones western sector who was assassinated by Hizbullah in an
ambush in January.
The fatal shooting of the Hizbullah members ignited heavy fighting between the
collaborators and the resistance that left one militiamen dead and another, who
is now on trial, wounded.
The five detainees are Ibrahim Sayyed, Khodr Bedair, Ahmad Faqih, Hassan Qlait,
Hussein Yehia and Hassan Mousa, who is still at large.
The six joined the militia in 1978. The five at the trial proceedings admitted
to divulging classified information about the resistance to the Israeli
secret service until they handed themselves in to Lebanese authorities after the
May Israeli withdrawal.
The six militiamen, who were operating under the command of Hassan Musa, the
head of the militias security in Kfar Kila, had bombed the prayer hall in
Bzoun and killed its sheikh.
Talih also demanded that another two collaborators involved in the killing be
sentenced to up to 15 years with hard labor.
