Military court sentences 46 Israeli collaborators |
A Beirut military court Wednesday sentenced
another 46 Lebanese to prison terms ranging from three weeks to 15 years for
collaborating with Israel during its occupation of southern Lebanon.
Of the sentences issued, 13 were in absentia, judicial sources said.
Ten of those sentenced were forbidden by the court from entering the former occupied zone for periods ranging between one year and five years after finishing their prison terms.
The 46 were accused of joining the now-disbanded Israeli-allied militia, entering the enemy state of Israel and collaborating with it.
The latest verdicts bring to 796 the number of Lebanese sentenced since June 5, when the court began holding marathon sessions to wade through the 2,200 people who had betrayed their country and collaborated with the Israeli enemy during its 22-year occupation of southern Lebanon, which ended May 24.
