Tribunal
hears 25 collaboration cases
The trial of 25 people on
charges of collaborating with Israel opened at a military court on Friday,
the ninth one-day trial since June 5.
The court, presided over by Brigadier Maher Safieddine, questioned the suspects,
most of whom were former members of Israels now-defunct proxy militia.
The others are accused of traveling to Israel for work. The verdicts and
sentences were due to be handed down around midnight.
The tribunal, meeting three times a week, has so far sentenced 533 people. The
harshest sentence was 22-and-a-half years in prison given in absentia to a
collaborator, but generally, sentences range between a few months and a few
years.
